Hi, which is the best filter to protect the lens on my Fuji hs10 ?

I am considering either a skylight filter or a polorising filter but don't know which is best option Rolling Eyes

Cheers, Simon.

If you want a truly neutral filter just for protection then UV one is best.
If you use a polarising one then it does restrict the light a bit but it is neutral.
Skylight will give you a slight pink hue but not enough to make any real difference.

If you want it purely as a lens protector then UV filters are the ones most commonly used.

I use them on mine but it is a hotly debated topic (for and against) in photographic circles Surprised

I always used to use a Skylight 1A and did not notice any change in appearance of the final image.

Polarising filters can be fun but they do cut down the light considerably, I have never used UV alone.

A UV filter is made of pure glass only plus the usual anti reflective coatings. Pure glass lets more light though than any other filter but it filters out the UV.
The best filters are coated on both sides.

Put on a cheapish UV filter to protect the expensive lens. It's far better to break the filter when you drop it in error.

I always fit a 1A, just to protect the lens.

poloriser filter is not really designed to just protect a lens. As said either use a UV or skylight but do go for a good one not just the cheapest.
