Hi all, just bought a fiat 141 from e-bay, the lady lives in bacelona and its being delivered to me shortly, and all the docs. will arrive with it, she has done the ( v8 ?) think thats what she fills in to tell vla
of change of ownership, it was registered first in uk, so thats ok.
The problem Iv`e got is insurance and any help in what I need to do to care for it, should I join the caravan & camping,,, or caravan club ??
I am hoping all goes well with your purchase as there have in the past, been some dodgy deals with motorhomes bought on Ebay from overseas.
The basic insurance will require all of the usual information plus the type of security (if any) that has been fitted. Thatcham 1 or 2 are generally recognised by insurers, which you will need to find out about.
You will need to have the insurance cover the vehicle to begin on the day it arrives in the UK. It may be possible to arrange an emergency cover.
Good Luck!
Alan
Good luck, that lady in Barcelona seems to do a roaring trade selling motorhomes to the UK or is it lots of ladies in Spain selling the same motorhome to the UK, I forget.
Hi rum51.
I may be one of many that have loud alarm bells ringing. You have not mentioned if you have actually seen the Camper " In the flesh ". Without sounding rude, sexist, prying, or the harbinger of doom I would hope no money has changed hands or is lodged in any form of escrow account.
If the transaction is genuine and your homework has not uncovered any problems then I am sure all will be ok but as other members have pointed out, there are a lot of dishonest people out there trying to scam your hard earned cash.
I am sorry this has not answered your insurance questions, it just seemed better to air my concerns. I hope you will accept this as advise, as opposed to meddling in your affairs.
Regards
