Good afternoon all! I hope you are not all indoors reading this when the weather is so nice!
I have a Status 530 Aerial - just installed it, and the DTV reception is pretty darn good -
However, my current radio aerial is very poor as I have it just sitting on the dashboard - Seeing as the Status has FM output, I am hoping to connect the radio to that, but can anyone advise if it is possible to receive AM signals through the Status?

Hi I spoke to a very helpful guy at Grade UK who make them and he assured me if it is the model with the telescopic slide outs it would be very suitable for radio, on this advice I have just wired my dash radio to my status ,the signal in my drive is considerably better ,will let you know how it performs on route when we go away this weekend

The Status 530 is designed to provide AM/FM radio, but it is not as easy as it appears. For an AM/FM aerial to be fully effective it should be horizontal and Grade suggest that the rods are fully extended. Problem then is that if you are receiving TV from a transmitter relay, the Status will need to be aligned Vertically. If the rods are extended, it is impossible to extend the rods. Also, if the aerial is aligned vertically, that is the worst alignment for AM/FM reception.
Finally, AM/FM aerials are directional, and it is possible that the radio transmitter is in a different direction from the TV transmitter.

I looked at this possibility but when I discovered that the Status pre-amplifier was only powered when the ignition is off it meant the radio could not be used whilst travelling.

Hi Dusty, the reception is better without the power to the booster ,but even better with the booster , but as I never use the status for tv , as I have a sat dish, I have wired the status amp from an ignition circuit to enable me to us the amp while on the move , I am sure there must be a simple way of wiring so it could be used on the move and when parked for tv

Thank you all for the responses - I will buy some cable and thread it through to the dash and give it a go - It cannot be worse than my current solution...
Just done a 140 mile trip passing through derbyshire in loads of places down in valleys etc, in places were in the past I never got a decent signal , but with the radio now connected to the Status and the booster on there was hardly a drop in signal or reception , well please ,one of the best mods I have done
