Hello,
Just a few lines to introduce ourselves, we are new members to this site.
Smartgolfer<<Jurek and his partner Liz.
Im not new to Motor homing, I used to have an A class Elnagh Magnum, having spent lots of good times away in it back in the late 90’s, I sold it then because it just was not being used, and to my surprise I didn’t lose all that much money on the sale in fact if I did a ruthless calculation I made some money!
Time went on and I now have different interests and hobbies, golf is the primary one, wheni met Liz we spent a lot of time on the fairways, and I thought the combination of a Motor home and golf could be a good one.
After owning a Motor home I had a pretty good idea on what to do and expect when coming back to it, all Motor homes are compromises to suit the owners needs, this time round I had a better idea of the unit id enjoy using and spending time in.
We settled on a Bessacarr E765, 2000 with a genuine hand on heart 21k on the clock, no abuse to the internals in the form of wear tear or pets etc, so after sorting a few minor hiccups with taps that leaked, its sorted, the Truma heater has been amusing, but we’ve got our heads round that and it works fine, to my surprise, the fuel consumption is very good, for the size of unit with a 2.8 diesel we are getting good 30mpg occasionally 32, admittedly I am not leathering it and only cruising at 2000 rpm.
As I mentioned earlier, we are golfers and travel to different mixed golf opens around the country, I am profoundly deaf myself, and I am an active member of the Wales Deaf Golf.
If you are interested in forming a Golf Society for Motor homers we would welcome hearing from you, come say hello.
Welcome to you both and I hope your new van proves a good buy. We have a Bessacarr too and are pleased with ours- eventually !
I've just been looking at golf course with campsites as they do seem to be a good combination. There seem to be enough of them too. Do you have to pay a higher insurance premium to cope with all those accidental dents however...
Not sure the angle of your comment about insurance premiums.
I was looking at it from the other way round. Parked close to a fairway ( is that the correct term?) as, inevitably you will be if staying at a campsite near a golf course, you are more likely to have your van hit by stray golf balls. This will not enamour you to your insurance company.
Sorry....it was an attempt at humour. Promise I won't do it again.
See your point, todate we have been always welcomed by golf clubs to park up, the E765 is a big bus and can be deemed intimidating by some, but we have always made a conserted effort to park with consideration away from danger.
If the need arise, i can always fall back on my original trade i learnt with BMW, Automotive Body Repair
Hiya, i'm a newbie to this site today. I've been a camper van owner for twenty odd years, always small vw's, but i've lately bought a 1992 Elnagh Magnum. I'm struggling with the trumatic heater and i'm searching the web for information. I see that you had a magnum also. Do you by any chance have any information that would be useful to me? I've tried the Truma website but i can't find anything relating to older units. I've also tried to find the model number on the unit but either it's not there or i'm looking in the wrong place. The cover is a brown enamelled metal with punched louvres in it. There is a control knob on top of it to the right side and a separate control on the camper wall for the blower. When i turn the knob on the heater it begins to spark, the spark can be seen through a small window at the bottom right side of the heater. But it won't light, i don't know if i'm doing something wrong, is there a specific procedure for lighting it?
Anything that you can tell me would be very welcome. I will be putting a post on the main forum also.
