I have been upgrading my PC and before deleting much of my old stuff I came across this which I thought maybe of interest to this forum before I finally lose it.
Quote:
Thank you for your email regarding your endeavours
to establish how the supply, manufacture and hire of
motorhomes and caravans is covered by the DDA.

May I also take this opportunity to apologise for the
delay in this email response and I hope this has not
caused you too much inconvenience.

Part 3 of the 'Disability Discrimination Act 1995'
(DDA 95) imposes duties upon any individuals
providing a service to any member or section of the
public.

It is important to mention however that the
manufacture of products are not in themselves
covered by the provisions of the DDA 95.
This is primarily because manufacturing does not
involve the provision of a service directly to the
public.

Any individuals selling or hiring caravans or
motorhomes would have duties under Part 3 of the
DDA 95.

* There would be a duty to make sure a person with
a disability was not treated less favourably
for a reason related to their impairment.

* There would also be a duty to make reasonable
adjustments for any individual with an impairment

In order to use the DDA 95 for your protection you
would need to have an impairment that is likely to
fall within a criteria known as the 'Definition of
Disability'.

The 'Definition' states that a person needs to have
a physical or mental impairment that should have a
substantial, long-term and adverse effect upon a
persons ability to carry out normal day to day
activity.

Long-term means that an impairment needs to have
lasted or should be expected to last at least 12
months or for the duration of a persons life.

* Service providers also have a duty to provide
auxiliary aids and services for any individual

An example of the provision of a service might be
where a hearing impaired person needs a BSL
interpreter to communicate with a company selling
a caravan.

I have established a link to a page on the DRC
website containing the Part 3 'Code of Practice'.
This document is entitled:
'Rights of Access Goods, Facilities, Services and
Premises.

http://www.drc-gb.org/law/codes.asp

If a person is discriminated against for a reason
related to their impairment, they would have 6
months minus 1 day from the date of discrimination
to make a claim to a county court.

I hope this information will be of assistance to you
and please contact the DRC again if you need
any further help.

Unfortunately the link does not work anymore but does now take you to the site of the Equality and Human Rights Commission where no doubt much of this information now resides.
