I am looking to buy a Ventura Freestander Drive Away awning but I am unsure which height to buy - High or Low?

High model quotes entrance height 240-280cm
Low model quotes entrance height 170-250cm

I have a Autotrail van which is 290cm high from ground to roof but only 238cm from ground to top of door

Looking at the Omnistor side canopy fitted to my van I have found a awning rail in the front edge which is 246cm from the ground (8cm above the door)

Question: Has anyone fitted a Low model to this rail just above the door rather than buy the high model and have to throw the entrance tunnel material over the top of the van?

I have attached some photos to try and show my measurements but I also have a concern that the door might catch the roof when opening....any thoughts would be much appreciated....Gaz Very Happy

We used a freestanding Ventura Hi model with our AS Amethyst Monocoque, attached to the roof bars with bungees so it was easy to align and gave good clearance over the caravan door.

The tunnel piece also had a Figure 8 shaped rod which would slide into an awning rail which may well fit your sun canopy pelmet, but to clear your door the tunnel roof would have to be taut or the Ventura frame extended so the tunnel roof sloped down to your van (and any rain water also). This would need a stepladder and be quite a pain to do, particularly if you wanted to uncouple, driveaway and re-couple on return.

However, a friend of ours used to extend his sun canopy and then attach a low freestanding awning. This would be much easier to align & couple but high winds would be problematic and run the risk of the whole cabouch flying over the top of the van. But as the ventura is freestanding you could wind in the sun canopy if winds developed.

If you do want to buy a hi-Freestander in very good condition for £180 please let me know.

Regards, Brian
