Having just bought a new motorhome I thought I would treat myself to a new larger TV. This will be a real treat after the terrible picture I received on the drop down 15inch monitor on the Autotrail Chieftain caused by interference noise from the charger. The ECU was sent back to Sargent, but made no difference.
I currently use a Camos dome and connect it through a Sky Pace Box.
I have treated myself to a new 22 inch LED HD TV so want to be able to connect a Freesat box to allow me to view HD TV.
By what I can see most of the Freesat HD Boxes are 12volts, so provided I connect them through a voltage regulator it will be fine.
The problem I have is with regard to the operation of the Freesat box. I want to be able to hide it away in the cupboard below the TV cabinet in my new Burstner.
The current Pace Sky box has a “magic eye” is it possible to connect one of these or something similar to any of the Freesat HD boxes to allow me to function the box via the remote with the door closed.
I have trawled the net and can find nothing that answers my question.
Same problem here exactly but I only use a freesat HD no sky.
I got some velcro strip and stuck my Comag HD receiver flat to the wall behind the LG 22" LED so the facia was pointing to the ceiling. My remote operates it fine as long as I bounce the signal off the roof. Certainly would not work that way in a cupboard

You can get them far more compact (& prob cheaper), but part of my driver was that I wanted battery powering : the AV cupboard in my van is a real rat's nest & I didn't want to "fiddle" by seeking a suitable 12V supply. Only issue...minor...is that when used in battery-powered mode, to preserve the batteries if you don't do anything for a few hours it goes into a power saving mode - just means you need to use the remote control within 6 inches of the receiver to wake it up.
Works fine with my Dreambox.
Depending on your Freesat box, some have sockets specifically designed for accepting IR extenders...e.g. my aftermarket Freeview box fitted by the dealer has that.
I spoke with the guys at the company that the link took me too. The problem seems to be around the traditional magic eyes work on the RF output on the sky boxes.
Unfortunately the new HD Freeview boxes do not have RF on them so the magic eyes won't work.
They say there will be no other option but too open the cupboard. I'm sure some wizard on MHF will prove them wrong.....please
Just to add to my earlier post. This is my receiver velcro'd to the wall behind my 22" TV in it's stowed position. The remote still works excellent as long as I remember to point it at the ceiling.
