June/ July I am getting laid off, so I have decided to take the plunge and do something I have always wanted to do, take the money and run, first of all. Then rent out the house which is under way with a good agent etc,
And with the recently purchased M/H take a 6 month road trip!
Not got much of an itinerary yet but thinking of leaving the UK early August to France I want to do Loire Valley, then through France to Spain, follow the sun down till I get to Marbela about December, then Finlay hopping over to Morocco for about 6 weeks before retuning to Blighty unless i get a job or something else turns up over there.
So anyone got any tips on the best route, places to visit on the way etc. am happy to use the local motorways rather than the toll ones, done a few coach trips to Spain as driver and it was all toll roads very boring.

Any offers ???? or anyone else thinking of doing the same wana join me?

I don't tend to hit the road south till October but my advice on your first trip south would be not to plan at all.

Have a rough idea where you would like to visit and head in the general direction, stop when you've had enough of driving and see where you've ended up.

Aires in France POI would be useful as would a book of Aire locations, and of course an ACSI Card [MHF Link].

Stay off the toll motorways and do a bit of research on this website.

If you don't find anyone going your way, when you start out, you probably will, somewhere on your travels.

Welcome to the happy band of travellers. Enjoy your trip.

Book your ferry, decide where you want to spend your first night, then take it as it comes.
Last year we had planned france, spain, portugal aiming to take a about a week to get to portugal. Met up with another couple who were headed for Spain, but meandering, sometimes only 50milesin one day, we finally got to portugal 5 weeks later saw parts of France and Spain we would have missed. Has changed our way of travelling for the better.
Follow the weather, a whim ,listen to other motorhomers. most of all relax and enjoy

We were in Portugal in Dec/Jan/Feb 2010/11 and we were amazed at the number of lone male motorhomers/caravanners we saw. There were 4 at Lagos alone, 1 belgian who was only about 45 years old and he had done exactly what you are doing and didn't regret it one bit.
