Hi,
I've just invested in a cheap Ebay EX350. It's had very little use and now runs very nicely after a couple of strip downs to clean the sediment from the carb and the tank. I am impressed by the build quality.
Is anyone aware of any problems I might encounter apart from the fact it is quite low powered.
I have one too. I have had it about 10 years and never really used it. It has been in the shed/garage and I got it out last week. Stripped down carb and exhaust (exhaust gets blocked so keep as clean as possible). Started very easily, I was very surprised.
I plan on taking it as a backup to top up the battery but as you know it is very low on power.
All Honda products are like that.
I have some m/cycles in my garage i have not started for 30+ years - and i know they would start with some fuel and a jump battery.
The one thing that causes probs with the modern stuff is unleaded fuel - you do need to drain the carbs and tank if you are not going to use them for a long time.
Unleaded can eat its way through carburettors in time.
The gennie maybe only 350w, but its plenty powerful enough to charge your batteries via the hook up.
Thanks Chaps.
The more I look at it the more I'm impressed by the engineering. It's got to be easily the lightest usable petrol generator ever made and if they hadn't decided to over engineer it could easily be a lot lighter.
It couldn't be made now as it is a two stroke but they didn't' skimp on sophistication as I even saw a little reed valve in there.
I might take it apart again tomorrow just to admire Honda engineering at its best.
Any interesting bikes in the collection Dave?
I too have had one for a number of years. I bought it off some guy who refurbishes them.
It's stored in the garage of the van and never really used from year to year, but when I have used it a couple of pulls and off she goes.
If you are going to charge you batterries with it you need to ensure everything else if off, including the auto change fridge, if you have one. It has caught me out a few times
Thanks for the tip on draining the fuel as mine has been sittiing for years full of unleaded.
Thanks for that Stewart,
I didn't see any corrosion in the carb or anywhere else come to that, maybe the 2T oil mixed with fuel gives some protection. That oil does gather in the silencer.
The carb drain screw was not visible, through the little window, on mine as the carb bowl needed to be swivelled round. Just need to take the end cover containing the inverter and socket etc off. Only 4 screws though.
