A few months ago my hard wired reversing camera failed while in Spain. As vans are soft I am not really happy without one so I went to a local dealer who only had wireless kits. It was not cheap.

After much discussion and many assurances I agreed that they could fit one on the understanding that if it didn't work perfectly they would take it off again.

The day they fitted it it was fine. For the next few weeks we ambled our way north through the Spanish country side and it was adequate and actually quite good in the dark.

Weeks later when we drove through a city it was crap, flickering with the image coming and going. I would have taken it back except that I was miles away.

A few days ago the camera failed. My monitor comes on with the ignition. I usually turn it off to avoid distraction however last week I noticed an image on the monitor which was odd as I had removed the camera. After a while studying the monitor I realised that what I was seeing was the inside of a shop. I went into a nearby shop and there was a wireless camera, I was picking up a signal from that.

Since then I have left the camera on to see what else I pick up. Driving through any town I get frequent images from inside shops. A quick check with Mr. Google has revealed that many wireless cameras use the same few frequencies, both those used as reversing cameras and those used as surveillance cameras. No wonder it didn't work well in towns and cities it was picking up multiple signals.

I post this to alert people. I think this is potentially dangerous. You could find yourself seeing an image broadcast from another vehicle, say one overtaking you or seeing the wrong image when reversing.

I am not concerned with trying to get the dealer to recompense me. I post this only as an alert to others, Alan.

My best reversing camera is Lady p looking thro the rear window.

Foolproof.

My works scudo has a wireless reversing system.
As I reverse into my drive it picks up th epicture of our mh from the house wireless cctv system.

This is a common phenomenon, you will also find that if you drive past an operating microwave oven or wireless TV sender unit, they will interfere with it. Bluetooth and wireless networks also use the same band.
For reliable wireless cameras spend the extra and get a 5GHz unit rather than 2.4GHz.

In our opinion all wireless reversing systems are rubbish. Also we find it hard to see the point. The are not wireless, the are simply not connected to the monitor.

The camera should be wired to the ignition, so if your running one wire you may as well run a camera cable.

In the middle of nowhere their OK in a busy area wireless is a unreliable wast of space (a bit like wireless sensors on motorhomes, pointless as they simply don't work properly)
