Well after finally getting my hands on my first motorhome after two deals falling through due to dodgy vehicle histories (can't emphasize to use hpi checks enough). I am now going to fitt solar on the roof, I've pick out what i think makes a good setup after trawling the forums and google. So here is links to what i have in mind to ordered shortly if any of you spot any flaws or can suggest better panel, regulator that would be much appreciated. Must point out im more than handy with electrics but not had alot of experience on the 12v systems. I have no worries about being able to instal the panel or regulator etc though but might have missed something that only experience can bring. Anyway I'm rambling here's the links

regulator http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220778967146&ssPa geName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Panel http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190534529550&ssPa geName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

brackets (not sure about these)

thanks in advance for any feedback (oh any good sources for appropriate fuses and holders?)

Looks a good list. Have you double checked you have space for the physical size of the panel

Personally I'm not sure I'd be happy with 4 brackets on such a large panel? but it may be ok if they're space right. You'll have to judge that Rolling Eyes
If your're using the m4 cable thumbup you'll need another compression gland for that roof entry grommet. If you try to put 2 cables through one it wont seal.

yeah there is a double entry which i will use, also are that type of mount any good i seem to seemost panels attach with metal angle brackets?

@artona going up to give the roof a good clean so am double checking sizes postions then.

just seen a post reguarding piggy backing the feed from the solar regulator on to the outputs from the 230v battery charger, am i right in saying that if i did this the controller in the van that can switch between leisure and vehicle batteries would switch charging from solar between battieries?

thanks for the quick responses

i m in same position bar the van came with 55w pannel....

i wondered if one of these would also switch between batteries on 230v and cant see why not...

( i notice its only rated a 4 amps and am assuming it could be used to switch a 20a relay to conect )

You will be surprised how big that panel is when you get it on the roof of the van.

The double entry roof entry will be a lot better.. I used a single one and struggled, then found the twin one which I obtained for my mate and it was a lot better.
Brackets, B&Q strip of angle ali for £10, easily make 6 -8 brackets.

I recently advised against this regulator

If English in the eBay listing is anything like the English in the manual you are going to struggle. Love Thunder protection - has it got ear muffs?

I have a 130W panel glued on with similar sized but corner mounts but think that I would be happier with more mounts as the proposed panel is over 5ft long. I use Körapur Marine but a good Sikoflex would do.

Fully agree with Sallytrafic. We have a 130w Kyocera panel on the roof mounted on 4 corner brackets and 2 centre brackets. It is very secure.

The only other advice we could give is to get a panel as big as you can get on the roof and have two good size leisure batteries. Works for us and we have yet to run out of juice on our travels.

Thanks to all for the advice, @sally traffic I went with this regulator in the end but i fear it may be of the same printing house of instruction books as the other

@tonka, I was thinking that making up brackets might be the way to go but wasnt sure how well aluminium would bond compared to the abs plastics etc?

@richardandgill, I have the perfect space for the panel on the roof and hopefuly get an extra 20w for the same price as the 2x80w panels the only down side being that with two panels you have power if one fails where as if this one fails no juice!

If anybody has a good source for corner brackets and normal brackets please share, I found some online but they were exceptionally over priced pieces of plastic.

Anyway thanks again, I must say I'm finding this forum exceptionally helpfull and hope to be able to help out others in the future
