Hi,

Just some basic questions, please.
I belive I have a Senon MON300 and probably a Senon CAM120C.
Picture is not good with no green colour.
Am currently investigating the connection inside the dash to make sure it is plugged up OK, have already checked the rear.
Anyway..the questions :-

1. Should I expect a good picture of all colours ?
2. Is the nightime picture only black and white ?
3. Is the nightime picture a different sensor ?
4. If I want to buy a new camera how do I ensure it has a 4 pin plug, is there a name for this ? I see images of cameras with 2 pin phono plug conections which would be no good.
5. Assuming I find 4 pin plug camera, are they all compatible wiring ?
Or do I need to buy another Senon ?

Thanks,

andytw

Check that the monitor has a settings OSD (on screen display) menu.

Many colour, tint and contrast settings can be altered.

Its quite usual for the night time display to be in B&W.

Hi,

Yes, I was aware of all the adjustments. Only have Brightness, Contrast and Colour. All work but picure still poor and without green.
Found monitor connector in depths of dash/footwell and it is sound and secure.

Any takers on the other questions in the OP ?

Thanks,

andytw

It will never be a super duper HD picture but you should get a reasonable image with all colours.
You will see a ring of LED's around the lens which give off infra-red light for night time. Thats why its black and white.

Poor picture and missing green - sounds as though water has got into the camera. Not unknown, especially if someone has taken a power washer to the van at some time. Mine failed in this way when the Renault truck service place washed it as a favour - with their high pressure jet wash!

The Senon camera may not be available any more as they discontinued a few of their cameras. Just to compound the problem of interconnections, not all 4-pin connectors are wired the same way. I did it the hard way and stripped the connectors off, soldering the connections once I had found the correct colour codes. It was not too easy, and eventually I found out that yellow and white had been interchanged by two different manufacturers.

Best of luck sorting it.

Colin

[EDIT - the Senon camera you mention is still shown on the Senon website so it may still be available.]

If you do decide to replace the unit(s), take some time checking out the screen images. There are good ones and much better ones on the market.
You do not mention sound on your unit, that is available as are different viewing perspectives and twin cameras (one acting as a reversing camera and the other as a rear view mirror).
I bought mine unseen and in hindsight (no pun intended) I should have compared different units; my Veba is not the best.

This guy is a good bet to source a camera - I phoned and explained what I was doing and he talked me through the choices and then the correct wiring before I purchased. Just have model numbers (of both camera and monitor) available when you call him. They are out of contact (away sourcing new stock) on Thursday this week I think.

Hi.
I had a problem like this not on the camera but on the computer screen, I saw a red door and it was black, posted on another forum and the answers came back check your plug it sounds like you have a bent pin connection, they were right!..
Check yours and make sure they are all going into their holes.. That is if you have any pins and holes. Rolling Eyes .. Anything else would be a mystery to me as well..

Ray.

Just an update. I took a DVD player into the vehicle and connected it to the monitor, picture was good with green so def the camera.

I took the camera apart, no signs of damp at all.

Have had difficulty finding a camera, though, as I really wanted the same size and shape with a microphone.

I have found a complete set of camera and monitor on eBay that fits the bill and the seller has agreed to sell just the camera for £35.
It has a 4-pin plug so I will have to be carefaul before plugging in and make some judgement on whether the wiring is the same.

Hi,

The camera turned up OK but unable to use a meter to guess what was wired to each of the 4 pins. Plug was moulded on so nothing to see. No diagram supplied.

I just cut off the plug from the old camera with some cable to spare and stripped it back a bit and then did the same for the new camera.
Assuming black and red go to same on each camera, that left 2 wires one of which was screened. So I wired the screened cable to the screened cabled and the remaining wire to the remaining wire and it all works fine........with grass now showing as green colour on the screen !! So in short...sorted.

Thanks for all replies.
