Hi Still trying to find out what type of thread (its not metric) of an insert in the Alco chassis, crossmember between the rear wheels. A 14mm nearly fits. Even Alco can,t Surprised & my local ironmonger is getting tired of me getting different bolts from him to try. Never thought it would be such a problem.

It sounds to me like it is an old 9/16 either UNC or UNF thread which is United Nations Fine or United Nations Coarse.

Failing that if it is really old it could be whitworth thread.

Or if it is a fine thread it could be AF which is American Fine.

Was the insert fitted / thread cut before galvanising!

Threads have been mainly metric for quite a number of years now, and it may be that gavanise zinc is in the tread, if the answer to the first paragraph is yes! - in which case you will need a thread die to clean the thread up.

Thankyou all for your suggestions. The van is a 2008 so I would expect it to be metric. Hopefully the guy from AL-CO will contact me on Tue with the info, failing that I will try to get a 14mm fine threaded bolt.
Thanks
