I think what has happened is the clip (well, more like a giant rubber band) has come lose, which has caused the exhaust to vibrate resulting in the break just behind the silencer.
What I need is a solid recommendation for a good mechanic somewhere in Amsterdam that will be able to fix this for me. I'm unsure if it can be fixed or if a whole new exhaust will be needed.
The van is a left hand drive Fiat Ducato 1993 and I note there was another thread about getting a replacement exhaust should be easy enough on the continent. So fingers crossed..
I also have AA European Breakdown cover, but I am currently located at a campsite I'm not sure if I need to use that or if I can sort this one out myself.
Any help anyone can provide would be gratefully appreciated.
I've edited your title to put "Urgent" in capitals so it's a bit more noticeable.
We discourage capitals in titles as a rule since we keep them for when a really important emergency post needs to be seen very quickly, but one word is OK.
I also inserted the date so you don't get replies next year, from well meaning members who only ever read the OP!
Cheers Dave. Although I have to say I'm sitting in an ASCI discounted campsite on the outskirts of Amsterdam with rabbits and chickens running about wild and with free WiFi.
The question is, just how "urgent" does it need to be!
Seriously though, thanks for the amendment, I really should have put a date on the topic as well.
We ran into a similar problem in Italy over Xmas. We had Brittania Rescue cover, so just phoned them, told them our problem and they did all the research for us. Gave them our lat and longs, so they precisley were we were and sent us to the closest place. So did not even have to try and translate our problem into Italian, as they explained it to the dealer. And the VW dealer was FANTASTIC!
Thanks, for the info Dinks. I think I'm going to pop round to the local Kwik Fit and ask them what the situation is and how long it would take to get done.
I've found a link to the item I need on a website mentioned in the LHD Exhaust thread (that's in this same sub forum) and I don't know whether just to buy the part and then get a quote for fitting or maybe
even fit it myself. It all looks like it just slots together.
As for Welding, I'm not sure. If you have a look at the photos the break is almost right next to a support ring that bolted to the chassis. That probably leaves very little room to do any patching. That said I don't really know, I've not gone round to Kwik Fit yet and once I do I'll no doubt have a better idea about what is possible.
