What are the KAMPA TRAVEL POD XL and the MOVELITE XL Awnings like in the wind?
Are any of them any good as there are always plenty for sale on Ebay that have only been used once or twice?
Many thanks.

Two people can put the movelite xl up in a very stiff breeze. Once up it has withstood howling winds fairly well. We sold ours simply because it was easier to use the awning and side blocker and didn't need an extra "room" any more. Good bit of kit.

just about survived a relatively strong wind on shell island then in brean it simply gave up the ghost, most the poles snapped or splintered, personally would'nt use one again

I've had a Movelite XL and have now changed to a Khyam Excelsior Motordome, both are good awnings, the Khyam in my opinion is better in high wind.
These awnings (and I suspect all others that attach to the van via a figure of eight plastic tube) have a common fault in that the beading that slides into the plastic tube pulls out in windy conditions. I have modified my attachment by making a couple of aluminium figure of eight end pieces that sit at either end of the plastic one. They only need to be a couple of inches long and this is enough to stop the beading pulling out.
I made them up using a piece of awning rail cut into four equal length strips and joining each pair back to back with rivets.
What we need is an enterprising person out there to market these as an aftermarket add on, or is there already such a thing as the figure of eight in alloy?
