MHF has been subscription based since January 7th 2006 and has been the same price all this time i.e. >5 years.

We now have 4166 subscribed members (shown on http://www.motorhomefacts.com/subs.html) from this figure many can be deducted as free spouse subscriptions and staff etc. The actual amount of funds bought in by subscriptions is substantially lower due to this. You will also note that MHF only has usually 5 or 6 advertisers running campaigns as we do not actively pursue advertising which keeps us more independent.

During this time the company that I run which in turn runs MHF (and many other commercial enterprises) has become VAT registered and so effectively that £10 subscription initially had vat deducted of 17.5% then 15% and now 20%. I have soaked up the deficit for all these years as the remainder still was sufficient to run MHF and pay for hardware costs etc.

The biggest element that has caused a rethink is I get asked with alarming regularity nowadays by suppliers / service providers for some means of proving MHF subscriptions, i.e. An Insurance company / Ferry company / accessory company wants proof that you are a paid up subscriber before imparting whatever discount agreement advantage is in force. This has proved more and more difficult especially now with more companies seeing subscribers face to face and a self printed membership card just isn't cutting the mustard nowadays and some providers have been implying they may withdraw discounts unless an alternative system was bought in. The actual proof of membership that can be carried around should also actually help with gaining more discounts with nationwide chains and perhaps dealerships.

So I have been sourcing membership cards that would be individually printed and dispatched to subscribers when they subscribe (for all future renewals / subscriptions) and can be carried in your wallet / purse which have expiry date / contact info and most importantly your subscription number which gives you a quick and handy reference if need be. These are the same type of card used by the CC, CCC etc i.e. not the thick credit card thickness cards, but slimmer flexible versions.

On another vein often members ask if any other MHF members are on X site or visiting Y place as so little has been done in the way of pushing any stickers other than very recent sterling efforts by the rally team. So again it would be useful if all subscribers had a sticker that was consistent and that we could look out for on campsites / at rallies for other MHF people.

Obviously the extra work / costs has to be resolved somewhere and to this end With Effect From 1st July 2011 MHF Subscription annual cost will increase from £10 to £12.50 inc vat.

I hope our subscriber base can see the logic I present above as correct and understand the reasoning.

I have sourced a supplier who can do tax disc holders which are branded which i thought would make a nice change from just a sticker and have dual purpose and so these will be on order and be with us in preparation to start dispatching with any subs / renewals from July 1st
