Just back from France, weather not too great but holiday really spoiled by a French Motorhome who decided that he needed more of the road than I was able to give him - result a smashed passenger side door mirror on my van. This is now held together with tape and plastic bags!
I have found a replacement mirror system on e-bay and can see the 2 (very tight) screws/bolts that hold the mirror system in place but think there will be at least 1 more behind the grey plastic trim on the inside of the window frame. Has anybody replaced the door mirror themselves and if so do I need to take the grey trim off to get at a bolt/screw and how do I get it off without breaking it?
Any information would be appreciated.

Cheers, Tom

Yes Tandh

If your mirror is the same as mine, there are three bolts, two close together and one further apart. They turned out to be simple socket nuts on the inside of the door under a plastic pull off trim I seem to remember.
The mirror has a neoprene gasket that goes between the mirror unit and the door.
I do not know about them being very tight. A socket undid them easily on mine. My main worry was in dropping the mirror unit before I got a nut started on the inside,
The trim, if it is cold and old can snap but on a warm day using an old flat chisel blade it should come off ok. Put something under the blade to protect the paintwork.
Good luck, you may be surprised how easy the job is.
Alan

Thanks Alan, I suspected there would be another on hiding under the trim! The bolts are the 'star' type heads and I have one that fits but only on the end of a normal screwdriver handle. I will pop into Halfords/B&Q and get something more suitable. Then it is just a case of buying the correct mirror!!

www.wingmirrorman.co.uk/ is one place to look for a replacement mirror. Depending on the year they cost from £60 to £100 which is roughly half the manufacturers price.
Cheers

Alan beat me to it. Wingmirrorman is a great site - they seem to have everything at great prices and gave me good advice when I last used them about 6 months ago (needed a mirror for a 20 year old Talbot MH), they had one in stock incredibly and it arrived intact a few days later.

TandH... Dont worry I got him back for you...!!!!!! Wink

Last Wednesday started on a tour of the Normandy beaches and we encountered a French van man who also wanted more of the road.. Result big clash of mirrors.. I watched, in my unbroken passenger mirror, as his went into a thousand bits... Rolling Eyes

ps.. Sorry cant help on the replacement but you already got some good recommendations.

Thanks everybody for your advice. ordered replacement mirror from www.wingmirrorman.co.uk on Tuesday afternoon and it arrived today by Royal Mail - in the NE of Scotland! Removal and fitting was easier than I thought, worst bit was getting the window trim off and not knowing exactly where and how it was held on. Would recommend wingmirrorman to anybody, very helpfull and even the young woman who took my order was very knowledgeable.
