I am thinking of ditching my Sky box which we use in our house in France. I have a Sky Freesat card which gives me basic TV, plus a few extra channels. My sister has a Humax box, (they live next door in France), her husband tries to convince me that it is brilliant, but they do not get Fiver/ Five USA, and lots of other channel. Is it just that it is not tuned properly or is that what to expect. If so can anyone suggest which box I should buy.

We are in France and have both Sky and the Humax freesat box. Why not put a dual or quad head on and have both?

There are a couple of Sky channels we can't get but this is far outweighed by the user friendly Humax recorder. Would dump the Sky box in a heartbeat but just too tight or frugal.

Ray.

I agree but get a triple lnb, you might want to add another box for another room later on we have one recorder humax in the lounge and a non recorder one in the bedroom.

The two channels that you are looking for are not part of the freesat channel line-up. The full channel list can be found on:
www.freesat.co.uk
The Humax box is working correctly as if it was not it wouldn't tune any channels. If the channels that you are looking for are available as free to air and on the same satellite, then the Humax box can tune to them by carrying out a Non-freesat tune. This is explained in the instruction book.
This is always one of the perils of using a unit that has been designed as dedicated to a specific service.
Personally, I am a great fan of Humax products and definitely they are much better build quality than any of the Sky boxes.

Without doubt a Humax FREESAT Recorder is our best buy, ditching the Sky box, if you can afford it buy the recorder Freesat Plus type.

If you can live without 5 or Fiver etc for a while it may come on line later and a retune then will provide.
