Ex Ambulance on Ebay
We were looking into this one for ourselves but another opportunity came up, but I asked a couple of questions, and the answers seemed quite frank.
See below and make up your own mind, might be worth a punt

Dear mensasnem,
Hi, can you post the mileage please, Number of owners, and also are you absolutely sure that all it needs is a piston and re-building.
Kind regards
Kev.
Dear kev *****
Hi Kev. The V5 states two former keepers so I would be the third. The millage reads 296390. Drive belt tensioner done at 257367, Wheel cylinders/calipers at 254920, Camshaft drive belt/chain at 254920 etc…(as mentioned there is an extensive list of works carried out.) Most of the work was carried out by the ‘North East Ambulance Service’.
The problem was first noticed when faint blue smoke was observed on a short run. We returned to base but at one point the smoke became thicker so we stopped the vehicle, waited ten minutes, then resumed the remainder of the journey which was approx 3 miles, during which it did not smoke or loose power once. It sat for some time before being looked at by a Land Rover mechanic who removed the head and observed the cracked piston (Initially we thought it may have been a head gasket but that is intact and by all accounts reusable). It hasn’t been started for some time due to this and the oil will have mixed with the diesel as to be expected but if you are rebuilding the engine then I presume this will all be flushed through. The only other thing I can think of before its mot is that it will need two head bolts replacing as they rounded during removal (there are no studs or debris left in the block). We were considering just swapping the engine over as these share the same unit as other manufacturers vans (Vauxhall Movano etc).
All the best, MensasneM
I could be wrong but it all seems very genuine, could be worth a phone call and a viewing.
Good luck if anyone goes for it, Esnipe might be a good idea.
Let us know if you do, It might make a good MHF project.
I have no connection to the seller in any way except as above.
