I have no direct experience but one of the first things I did with next year's diary was to check when the foreigners are having the bank hols and such...
If you're a CC or CCC member you could always ask them... it might be quicker to check the new mhf members' map and pm one of the German guys... they usually have a better commend of our language than we have of theirs
I am planning to be away from 18th May until early June and would like to travel through Germany with perhaps a visit to Lake Constance.
Am I likely to bump into hoards of German motorhomes enjoying their Whitsun holiday.
I am quite fond of company but not not so fond of fighting for space. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Best wishes

Hi Tiggs,
I suppose somebody ought to get the thread back on track .
I was in the area Oct/Nov this year, the place was fairly crowded with motorhomes .
Bodensee (Lake Constance) being close to the Black Forest is very popular with the Dutch as well as Germans and in May/June you can expect it to be very crowded.
There's a fair sprinkling of Stellplatz on the northern shore of the lake but less on the south shore. When the School holidays are on you can expect the place to be extremely busy.
The area is well worth a visit, if you tie it in with the Black Forest you should have an enjoyable holiday .
If you are using the Stellplatz make sure you don't leave it too late to find a pitch for the night.
Whitsun Monday is a public holiday in Germany and most neighbouring countries, and Lake Constance is one of the areas with the mildest climate in Germany, so do expect a lot of other motorhomers there at that time. Also be aware that most of the local councils around the lake have meanwhile recognized motorhomers as a source of income, so on some Stellplatz and camp sites the price-performance ratio may be a bit out of balance.
Nevertheless this is a very nice region, and if you do not insist on having a site directly at the shore, then you should have no problem.

This is because the south shore is Austria or Switzerland, not Germany...
Best Regards,
Gerhard

Our 3rd or 4th visit to Germany was last year. We have found the natives friendly and helpful.
For some information use this Forum: European Trips, Page 2 scrolldown 5 to " Trip to German French and Italian alps". All the stellplatz and aires and campsites were, at the very least , very acceptable..We used Reismobile Bord Atlas purchased in Germany at the 2nd stelleplatz we stayed on.
