Hi I have fitted a Glomex Explorer satelite dish and installed a Grundig GUFSAT01H decoder/ digital freesat box, Both products are excellent from what I have seen of them. My issue is this, whilst the vehicle is in motion the glomex satelite receiver tracks the Satelite and the Grundig GUFSAT01HD/A outputs the signal to the TV, If we come to an area where trees obscure the path to the satelite then we have an issue.
If the trees obscure the Satelite in the sky for less than 30 seconds (remember the vehicle is in motion) then the Grundig GUFSAT01HD/A looses signal then recovers and continues outputting the image + sound to the TV.
If the trees obscure the Satelite in the sky for more than 30 seconds then the Grundig GUFSAT01HD/A displays "no signal" we then have to use the channel + - button to go up a channel (say from bbc1 to bbc2) we then have reception again but on the wrong channel, so we then use the remote to go back down a channel to resume watching the original channel. This works untill the next line of trees where if the satelite is obscured for more than 30 seconds we then have to repeat the process.
Anyone found a workaround for a decoder that is not aware it is travelling at 50mph and signal will depend on line of sight the issue seems to be that the Grundig GUFSAT01HD/A belives that if it cannot receive a signal for more than 30 seconds then the channel is dead. Anu ideas please, i will mail the maufacturer in the morning also.
I don't think so, its just a simple matter of looseing the sat signal, no mater what gets in the way of the dish, be it a tunnel, trees tall buildings, the receiver will only store a second or so.... if there's no feed you get nothing..... i would guess that the receiver just automaticaly starts looking for other channels if it looses the one you are looking at, I'm wondering if you can lock the channel, might be worth to see in the softwear if you can remove the auto search.... just a thourght.. gerry or jon (satandpcguy) might well be able to help you...
Most receiver I know will eventually return to showing the channel once it has locked on to a good enough signal. It may take a while until the signal is steady and stable, as constantly seeing then losing the signal as you pass trees will ont help this.
On some boxes it does take longer than usual, and so flipping between channels speeds this up.
There is nothing you can do on the reciever to resolve this...apart from dont drive where the signal is obsucured!
The Grundig, as with the Bush, Alba and Goodmans; (all identical boxes) is designed for static use and therefore would never be able to recognise that the signal has temporarily been lost.
I have never tested a box that has been designed for use in a moving vehicle and doubt that one exists.
This is exactly the same issue as you would have if you pulled onto a site where the satellite is obscured by trees or high buildings.
The only resolution is to do as you have already found, get the box to look at another channel and then go back to the original.
Surely it is a minor inconvenience, which is compensated by the very low cost of the Grundig box.

Re: Grundig GUFSAT01HD/A sat decoder 30 second time out limi
Good luck with that, firstly you have to find the manufacturer. It is not made by Bush/Alba, they only buy in the boxes. I worked with Bush/Alba and the factory on the development of the freesat boxes and have found that recently their contact has been very difficult. Certainly, since Bush/Alba were taken over by Home Retail (Argos), the contact has been even worse.
