Hi all, Looking for a low profile under 6m MH for 2 with a 2.3ish Diesel. Must haves include big garage (hi bed), loo/shower, Oven and grill. Looked at Hymer Van (hob only?), Dethleffs Globebus T1 (seems perfect). Any other suggestions?

You have 3As Caravans at Carmarthen and Cross Hands as well as another at Cross Hands - go and have a chat with them - I found them very helpful when I explained what I was looking for. 3As at Carmarthen was where I eventually p/exd ours. They take their time to help you.

Thanks, Colin. I drive past Carmarthen on A40 quite often, so they would be an ideal port of call...

Many of us use a skillet instead of an oven. Not sure if that would do for you and would help you broaden the availability of vans

We do a lot of baking, especially bread, so would miss an oven! Have spent 30 or so years sailing so have tried various alternatives over the years. Don't want to use electric breadmaker as we will mostly be a long way from a hook up.

3A's at Carmarthen and Cross Hands were great...

So after months of research and getting ideas (fortunately not too fixed) of what we wanted, we discovered there is no substitute for getting into them, test driving if possible, and letting a bit of the heart rule the head.

So from our list of wants:
low profile - we have a lovely bulgy roof
under 6m - 6.23
MH for 2 - sleep 5 or 4 comfortably
2.3ish Diesel - 2.4
Must haves include big garage - YES
(hi bed) - higher than we thought
loo/shower - YES
Oven and grill - we got the oven

Zero miles Dethleffs Sunlight A63 - will report on how we get on.
 Report 6 months on....

My Dethleffs Sunlight A63 has been a great choice and we have been really pleased with our change of lifestyle that it has brought. We have seen no other A63s on our travels, but read a good review in October 2011 MMM which pretty much agreed with our findings.

Major Likes: The Ford Transit 2.4 rear-wheel drive base with double wheels at the back - really good on soft ground. Not very economical - about 25 mpg on average, but the van is no Bluebird as far as aerodynamic shaping goes, but love the cruise control and 6 speed box. Driving position is quite high with the swivel seats and if I were taller than 5' 10" might be a problem. The oven is great and we have met our desire for a grill for toast by buying a hob toaster (see below). We often camp away from electrics so the gas water and van heating is a huge bonus. The separate shower is brilliant.

Layout with rear bunks - just brilliant for us with dog crates and big storage boxes from Wilkos. Love having the pull down bed in the Luton permanently made up - going to bed couldn't be easier.

Dislikes: Nothing major. Would have liked access to garage from both sides and easier access to the leisure battery (in a low cupboard behind a fragile cardboard heater tube).

Modifications and additions: Rear camera with display on rearview mirror - fantastic!!!!! Roof rack and ladder - good for all sorts, including picking up a 24 ft boat mast. Hob toaster (£5 from Amazon) makes perfect toast, 4 slices at a time! I have added lightweight shelves made of floor laminate to all cupboards and about 10m of bungee cord and 30 or so hooks. Awning to keep the sun off - what sun? We haven't used it yet!

Next ? Plan to fit a PWS towbar to tow the boat. Round Scotland trip planned - mostly wild camping....
