Right, I have attached a solar panel rated at 80W.

I have tested it and 20volts is coming from it.

I have attched it to a 10A regulator but the regulator doesn't seem to be working correctly. (I did wire it up in the correct order)

Anyone got any possible ideas about where I'm going wrong?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Jim. Confused

hi jim , have you connected your regulator to your leisure batteries? you should have + and - from your panel onto the regulator and then the + and - feed wires from your regulator to your batteries. regards sean

Further to the above

About 20V measured going into regulator from panel.

Voltage on battery side of the regulator jumps around all over the place(!) about every 0.5 seconds from 19 to 12 to 16 to 15 etc.

Battery is not empty.

Is this just PWM?

The LEDs on the regulator flash but don't seem to correspond to any particular error codes?

Most confused. Confused

Any ideas?

Hia Jim
I am no expert in this but I have just fitted a 70 Watt semiflexable panel. Regarding the controller you must ensure that you connect the battery wire first. Some controllers tell you to then leave it for a few minutes before you connect the PV solar panel. This is in order that the controller settles down and is aware what voltage to charge the battery either 12/ 24 volts.

What make of controller do you have? I have an EPRC-ST Series and that has given me some problems like the wrong LED on the panel flashing when the battery voltage reaches 13.6 volts. I don't know if your controller is similar to mine but the way it controls the current input to the battery is on a pulse basis, that is the controller allows 2 seconds on full charge (3.5 amps) and 6 seconds on no charge. I have tried to find out if this is normal for this type of controller but I can't get an answer!!

sorry to go on a bit but try the connection in that order first

When you say "correct order" do you mean you connected the battery first? and then the solar panel. From the conversation so far it sounds like you did the opposite of this

Just backing up the others.. Connect regulator to the battery first and then the panel to the regulator.. Sound like panel is working so unless you have not done above then maybe a faulty regulator..

ALSO... I assume that your not just testing the regulator output with just the panel connected.. As this wont give a true reading..

Double check and let us all know..

Solved with a lot of volt meter testing. Very Happy

For those of you with a CBE DS 300 dsitribution panel - my mistake was to connect the -ve from the panel (that should be going to the battery -ve), to the "mains masses" where all the other -ve connections go. Rolling Eyes

ie. do not connect the battery -ve from the regulator to the "mains masses". Connect to the B2 -ve at the main connector post at the bottom of the DS300 unit.

Hope this helps someone.
