Someone has just e-mailed me this link:

http://www.tepwireless.com

You can 'rent' a 3G wireless router to work in Europe giving you 50MB/day in multiple countries or if you choose Germany, Spain or Italy you can get 'Unlimited 3G Internet'. While I wouldn't rent such a device from the company I would be very interested to know the network behind such an arrangement as it sounds like it could help a lot of people!

I've not had chance to read much information on the site so apologies in advance if this thread is inaccurate or misleading.

Looks great but I can't see any costing example.

That is not correct.

A months rental equates to £2.50/day for 'Unlimited' in a single country which supports it or 50MB for 'Multi-Europe'.

You misunderstand my post by dismissing it - my intention was not to recommend it as a service but to say that clearly there is a mobile network provider behind the service and maybe that might be a gateway to finding a suitable mobile data option in Europe.

However, interestingly, if you select a 12 month rental it charges you £79.95 for the device which is 22p a day - that seems good value!!

I suspect this is a fault with the website though (see attached)

Sorry no offence intended!
I absolutely agree - the current system seems a cartel of the highest order.
There is clearly a gap in the market and this may well be a good option for folk staying a while in europe.

Despite my moaning am going to give it a go for our next trip in September.
If you register on line they give you 10% off.
I will let you know how it goes...

Didn't see that one coming! Laughing

Look forward to the review, see if you can work out what Network it is registered on... might be a way of obtaining a sim card deal rather then a "rental" agreement in the future...

Yea, this is quite interesting, since its a different business model. I'm just back from France & used data roaming on my phone at a rate of 20p/mb. This looks better value but has some catches. I gather they are using a dedicated myfi device. They won't do sim only.

Just as an update (having chatted with them today) :- They try to provide voice calls by Skype. But Voip is being blocked by some 3g carriers & Tep have told me that as a consequence the skype facility is not available in some countries (inc France). Their alternative is for calls back to UK is £2.00/min!

It'll be interesting to see how you get on Tulsehillboy. Enjoy your trip.

Just came back from my trip around Europe with the Pocket wifi. The service was fantastic! I had internet literally at all times. When I had a query the support team was very responsive. Thanks Tep!
