We shall get our new(to us) Rapido 986M on 1st. August - very exciting as it's our first fixed bed!!

It' has the shower and toilet alongside, so there is a bit missing at the end of the bed.

Advice please. Will my usual bedding fit ok - duvet and fitted sheet and there is what seems to be an elasticated cover in the same material as the seats etc? Is this made to cover the bed during the day?

We have a Swift Voyager with a shaped mattress and Jonic do all of the various shapes etc

However we also use an ordinary sheet tucked in which works in our vehicle

hope this helps

We always left the cover on but used a pair of sleeping bags on top of the bed. The cover became a little slack after a few years so we fitted tapes underneath to hold it tight. The cover was still fine after 6yrs and 500 odd night sleeping on it!

Flat sheets tucked in work fine for us. We bought a double duvet for a tenner from ASDA and cut it down to the correct size then Ann sewed it up to seal it again. We also bought a duvet cover at the same time and did the same with that, and hey presto, a full bed set for less than £25.00 inc. pillow cases and sheet.

Saw bed sets on sale at the show last week at Tabley that cost as much as we paid for our telly!

Making the fixed bed is a bit of a rawm, but just make the head end first and tuck the sheet in as you go down to the foot. It's best, I find, to do the narrow bit last.

Hi All
Many thanks for your tips.

I think the best thing is to wait till we get it, try things out your suggestions, and then make decisions.

How I wish I had Ann's talent for sewing!! I might just have a go, though it will have to be hand sewing as I don't possess a sewing machine!

Hi

We just use a normal quilt and normal fitted sheet, they work fine.

To get a fitted sheet for the misshaped mattress cost a fortune.

Last one I saw was £35 !!!

Agreed -we just use a double duvet and fitted sheet on our Rapido fixed bed - it is off course in matching colour to our upholstery !

Incidentally the existing fitted cover you mention is just a mattress cover - ours is in a bag in the garage and we fitted an underblanket to the shaped mattress before putting the bedding on.

Right now we're on our (4.5 tog) summer duvet -come end of October we'll go back to the winter duvet (10.5) for motorhoming through to the Spring.

Our Mattress is shaped so we use made to order fitted sheets. They make life a lot easier when it comes to changing them. Not expensive made by a charming lady in Cornwall.
Standard Duvet and pillows used.

You'll appreciate a 'standard' double duvet during winter camping - I like wrapping the 'excess width' behind me -between me and the wall - which gets quite cold when temps start to fall

I tie a knot in the corners of flat sheets- then they fit beautifully!
A tip if you use the motorhome in high temperatures- use good quality, high thread count cotton sheets, they're worth paying for to keep you cooler.
