Hi,

I wonder if anyone could give some advice on the older shape Fiat Ducato's? I understand that the earlier 1989 version I think looked like THIS which was later face-lifted to look like THIS and that the Talbot, Peugeot, Citroen all shared similar vans.

My questions are:

1.) Out of the engine choices 1.9D (non-turbo), 2.5D (non-turbo), 2.5TD which was the best or most reliable engine?

2.) Can anyone provide any rough MPG figures based on a sub 6m conversion?

3.) Does anyone know what German Emissions / Euro rating any of them are? We're seeing a lot of these vans outside of Germany now. I'm guessing a 2 at best.

4.) Power Steering - did they all have it?

5.) Other than the obvious rot issues, does anyone have any practical "what to look for" information?

Thanks! Smile

If was you go for the 2.5tdi non turbo are very slow and under powered.

You will see a lot of the older German vans for sale as the will not meet the German MOT requirements which are very strict.

You can get some bargins by buying them in Germany for export.

You should be able to travel in Germany with it if it is registered in the uk.

We had a non turbo 2.5 1992 okay with the wind and going down hill. Painfully slow against a headwind or steep hill.

I agree with Inkey, i currently have the Hymer camp 55 2.5d (non turbo) but as much as we love the old girl she`s getting a bit tiresome to drive with the lack of power under the hood & the lack of power steering makes tight manoevers hard to do.
Mine is a 1990 model but later models came with Turbo + PAS.
As engines go my fiat has been okish but a sod to get spares for.
We are looking to get another older Hymer camp in the next year or so & will have Turbo + PAS as high on the list of must haves & if possible the Peugeot engine.

Approx 25 miles to gallon on a good run, but had the aerodynamics of a brick so a bit less on windy days. Laughing

On the bodywork the front wheel arches tend to go, other than that never really had a problem.
