Hi
as the little tele we were going to use has no freeview we were thinking of buying a new one but also thought about a satellite dish.
Can anyone explain the differences between freeview on a special van TV and using a satellite dish and if you need a special tele for this.
Cheers
Terry

A TV is a TV wherever you use it. If you are going the satellite route you will need a Satellite Digibox and a Satellite dish. There are a few TVs on the market that have a satellite digibox built-in but these are usually for home use (larger screen sizes).

And there are a number of channel differecnes between Freeview (TV Aerial) and Freesat (satellite dish).

Some channels on Freeview (Dave for example) are PAY ONLY on satellite.
And some channels (Five USA, Five* for example) that are on Freeview require a nonsubscription Sky card to watch.

If you buy a telly with freeview in then it will have a freeveiw reciever to receive terrestrial freeview telly via a tv antenna.

If you have a satellite dish fitted then you will need a satellite reciever which are farily cheap (50 quid ish). you will then be able to plug thenoutput of the sat receiver into the Telly via the scart lead. The you can choose whether to watch terrestrial tv via the antenna or satellite tv via the satellite reciever by choosing the "source" via the TV remote.

Lots of people have both systems me included as if you like the telly and you can see the satellite due to trees etc you have a chance to still watch it via terrestrial. saying thet i cant remeber the last time i watched terrestrail as i can usually get a satellite signal via the pimple on the roof (dome type dish)

cheers

phill

First, you don't need a special TV to watch Freeview, Freesat or Sky. We have a 22 year old TV through which we watch Freeview, Freesat and Sky - via set top boxes and the scart inputs.

For the motorhome we have a Freeview tuner that we use most of the time but we also have a freestanding satellite dish and a Freesat box as well as an old Sky box that we use if we can't get a terrestrial TV signal.

At the end of the day it all depends on how much TV you watch, the ease of setup that you desire and how much you are prepared to pay as to what sort of system you want
