Hi, I am thinking of upgrading to Sky Multiroom HD, but they want an extra £199 in order to record from the additional box is this correct ? And do you have top pay extra for HD in the extra room ?

Thanks Captain Bligh

Details in the small print on Sky's website here but what you've been told appears correct. Also an extra £10.25 per month for the other room.

I think it depends what you're going to/from.

General principle is whenever you add a multiroom subscription, you can take your existing box into the new room, and they'll supply a new one for the existing. So if you've e.g. got Sky+ in your main room and take multiroom with HD, you'll get a free HD+ box for your living room and move the Sky+ to your extra room. You just then have the £10-odd/month for multiroom.

If, however, you've already got multiroom and want HD to replace the box in the extra room, they'll probably charge you. Likewise if you don't have multiroom or HD but want it installing with an HD box in both, they'll probably charge you for one of the boxes.

Can't comment on whether the HD subscription's per box or house.

We've got 1xHD, 1xSky+ and 1xSky, and have never paid for a box as each new generation of box came free when we added an extra room.

Multiroom HDs "extra" subscription is to be removed soon, so you only have to pay one "HD" subscription, and get all HD channels on your HD multiroom boxes.
Wheree are at the moment you must pay the multrimm charge and an extra HD sub if you want HD on the multroon boxes.

Thanks all,

Phoned Sky & negotiated free installation - with £49 for a 1TB box which I thought was very good as the web price was at least £199.

I am having the additional box fitted next week, but I have received a letter stating it has to be connected to the same phone line as my main box. As my main box has never been connected to a phone line will they insist on this when they install ?

I don't have a phone line in the bedroom & also plan to use the new box on the motorhome.

they need the phone line incorporated to allow the system to update software. It then gives you access to other areas where a phone is necessary. don't worry it doesn't actually do anything or cost you any line fees.

Sky box software updates do not come down the phone line.
Sky box software updates are done via the satellites.
It would take a LONG time to do software updates down their 56k modems...via satellite is way faster!

The phone line connection is usually required for all new sky discouted installations for the first 12 months only, and all boxes and card on multiroom for the duration of the multiroom agreement. HOw they police this does seem to be a bit random. Some people have never had multriroom boxes connected ot ta phone line and have been fine. Others, after 3 months of no phone line connection started to get the "please connect your box" letters.

The phone line is also use if you want to but online on QVC or vite on TV (live z Factor and things like that)
