As a bit of light relief from packing the house ready for our move, I've been playing with some of the photos we took on a trip out in the van. I'm trying to get to grips with some of the features of Adobe Photoshop. What do you think of the results below?

I changed it to black and white and then recoloured the lighthouse.

This is the original:

Let me guess ? You selected round the lighthouse & then inverted the selection. Then changed the background to grayscale then upped the hue/saturation on the lighthouse ?

Nice effect Smile

That's only one click!?
However I would lighten and darken the B&W image to make it more dramatic.

No, I think I took the long route! I changed it to grayscale, used the magnetic lasso on each segment of the lighthouse and then changed the hue in those. I did say I was learning! Laughing

EJB - I'll try that. It's all trial and error for me though. Trying the same thing on some battered sea defences was rubbish - too much detail to colour effectively.

Lesley

I used to advise on a PS forum but have now managed to control my obsession.
Now I can look at your image and not be tempted to download and spend (waste!) time adjusting it.

Good Luck Wink

PS. I did have a play and a little lift of the midtone contrast looked very good.....must learn to stop playing Rolling Eyes

Ted & Lesley,

I have done pics like that for fun before, duplicate the image as a new layer, convert this new layer to b&w, like Ted says, make it contrasty. Take a rubber and rub out the top (b&w) image to reveal the lighthouse.
