We are currently considering our options on what TV to purchase. We currently have a reasonable status ariel which looks as though it has some directionality to improve reception.
I was wondering if this is too big. Also it is not 12v and really am wondering whether a 12v TV is worth it when considering that we are not big TV fans (i.e. camping is for getting away from Eastenders, etc).
We were planning to put a Sat dish on in a few months time but that will have to wait as budget permits.
Size does matter and it doesnt do to be too big,( ) and as to whether or not its worth paying the extra for 12v and limiting your choice...
I dont think anyone can can make a reasonable argument for doing so when a simple £15 inverter overcomes the voltage problem and if its argued they use less wattage, my 220v 16 inch dvd tv only uses a measured 26 watts using the tv....A further possative advantage of the inverter route is the ability to charge a phone or run a laptop....
The custom made ones are designed/built to withstand being shaken about while travelling (This can make a difference if your tv is permanently mounted on a bracket) and they are more tolerant of variations in the power supply.
If on a budget..
ASDA !! They do a LED 16" for £85...
VERY slim and light, only 20w for power.. No DVD but does have a USB connection so you can store films on a flash drive or hard drive and just plug in.
It's mains only but a cheap 150w invertor does the job fine and as mentioned you have the invertor for other uses.
Bit overpriced considering that I will only be looking at it a few times a year.
We usually accumulate a whole stack of free dvd's which when we get the chance we watch on our travels, so considering the hassle of DivX ing the whole lot.
On the mention of the TV being shaken a lot I might buy the 5 year warranty for it.
If you are using it infrequently buy the cheapest reasonable TV available.
Recently bought a 15" Technika [phillips] from Tesco Direct for £60.
Customer returns but recon. if necessary & a years warranty.
Absolute bargain .

C16LDVB11 16" HD Ready LCD TV £119.99

These are both 12vdc working off 240v transformer. If you get a 12v regulated voltage lead will work fine. Alos having USB and an HDMI, and VGA port can be used with virtually any add on.
