I wouldn't touch a Camos with a barge pole - apt seeing I live on a narrow boat. I inherited the dome from boat's previous owner. It worked fine for a month. Then, while in the exact same location (in south-east England), it suddenly started to lose channels.
I used it for Radio 2 in the daytime, but after 45 minutes you get the deadly 'poor or no signal' message. The same happens watching BBC tv channels in the evening. Fine for half an hour or so - then suddenly no signal.
Google the problem and one finds that it is a common repeated complaint.
I'm going to the expense of chucking it and getting a twin lnb Maxview 65cm dish instead. Far lower profile and taking up no more roof space than the Camos.
Are you sure it's the dome and not the digibox-- more likely!
Borrow a digibox and try it?
My digibox is a freesat+ Humax Foxsat that has worked without fault for three years (mostly with my previous Oyster dishes). Have done re-scans, setting back to factory defaults and auto tuning etc. The recorded programmes work fine.
But as you say, might be worth trying with another digibox - if I can find one.
PS To all those hoping for my 'chucking' it your way - I have already had other offers and the Maxview dealer also may pay something in part exchange.

I have Googled the problem "Camos dome loses channels" and variants of that phrase and I can't find anything remotely similar to what you are saying Tim. Perhaps you could point me in the right direction.
We have sold many, many Camos domes to people with narrowboats and I am not aware of a single complaint along the lines you mention. There are also thousands fitted to motorhomes and caravans and I'm pretty sure that the vast majority of owners are very happy with their systems.
Making the statement "Don't buy the Camos 1400P dome" when yours is second-hand, you don't know mention how old it is or how it was installed or whether anything has been done to it and you apparently haven't bothered to try and find out why you're experiencing the problems you describe is, dare I say it(?), a little premature perhaps.
Any product of just about any kind - even a ballpoint pen - can go wrong and, whenever we do get a Camos system that has developed a fault, we fix it. As the Camos distributor for the UK, we would have been happy to check the system out for you but, as far as I am aware, you didn't ask so there we are.
Your sat-dome is a static model and my experience tells me that the most probable cause of channel loss on a boat with a static satellite system is that the boat moves. I'm sure you'll have considered that possibility but I have to mention it.
I look forward to hearing from you about the Google search and, if you would like to find out if there is actually anything wrong the system, just let me know.
Camos domes are great bit of kit; it is therefore a wee bit harsh to say never buy one. The only time I have had problems with mine was 'human' ie parked behind a great big oak treee!! I am sure there is a perfectly logical explanation for the fault and if not, as they say RoadPro will fix.

Coming out top of the list in my Google search just now was a message on wildcamping.co.uk under the topic ‘Camos sat system’ that in part read:
“We park up at the end of the day, turn the system on, and all OK, then after an hour or so we loose all the bbc channels “
Exactly describes my symptoms.
On another site - afraid couldn't find it second time round - it was suggested that nearby electronics can affect signals.

I wonder if you fitted this one, probably within the last two years to a guy called Roger Furlough who fitted out my narrowboat at a marina at Church Minsulll, near Nantwich.

I am the first user. The boat hadn't been used or lived in before I bought it.

And you haven't bothered to ascertain my side at all. Is ringing round countless dealers getting advice, scouring the Internet for solutions, retuning, moving away other electronic equipment (such as dvd player), re-routing cables, unscrewing 16 nut and bolts on the dome to check the gubbins and re-scanning my digibox not being bothered? No wonder in my frustration I wrote 'Don't buy....'

Ah.

There we are not. How much are you aware? I DID ring RoadPro and had a friendly chat with someone. The conclusion was that I would have to post the control box to you to be checked out. It may not have been the problem and I've had to spend, what, 14 days without it. Next, post the dome to you???

There is very little movement here in the marina. Certainly no increase in the second month when it started failing to find channels (those I've since found out are broadcast in the horizontal mode. The vertical ones are usually ok).
