Whilst this might be an isolated case please read!! I have a 55 litre Stako LPG Tank fitted to my 2008 Motorhome this tank was fitted Jan 2008 It fell off yesterday whilst driving on examination the two Securing straps had both corroded underneath the plastic covering where the corrosion could not be seen. Luckily the pipes from the fill held as the tank was dragged along the road it it had broken it could have been much worse as it was full!! so please check your straps.
Since this was potentially such an extremely dangerous situation I'll make it a sticky and put the title in capital letters.

Good warning. I always think its worth having two forms of security. When I built the motorhome I looked at potential future problems and planned for them.
Its always worth making periodical checks to make sure things are as they should be
Just wondered Weldted who the fitters were and what their comments were when you spoke to them. They would have been 'Corgi' trained as it was then and should have been fitting straps that would have least lasted as long as the tank did. There could well be issues here for a recall type contact of all of their customers to prevent the sort of catastrophe that you narrowly avoided. Maybe the fire service could point you in the right direction regarding who takes the lead in such matters

Hi it was the firm in the Forest of Dean, near Lydney who have now ceased trading, I have e mailed Stako and await their reply.
The straps were part of the kit that comes with the Tank so a manufactures part. I have ordered new ones from Autogas2000.
A few years back when I bought and self fitted a bulk tank (at time had gas ACOP and Corgi registered) I did not consider the straps supplied to be fit for purpose, I queried with supplier only to be told they were adequate, that they used them when fitting tanks and no one had ever complained before.
I made my own fixings from 30mm x 5mm bright mild steel and had them galvanised and the supporting hooks from 8mm bar, I eventually got a small refund for the supplied straps. Perhaps not a solution for all but possibly one to consider.
