Sounds like a simple and reliable, (but a tad expensive) way of using the net abroad.
I'm sure some one on here must have some experience of it, if not an opinion Wink

At 50p a MB it's surely a non-starter.

Vodafone Data Traveller offers 25MB/day for £10/mth - granted you have to use your handset (unless you 'get away' with tethering it) but this is also valid in all EU countries plus a few non-eu.

I thought one had to have a basic contract with Voda before one can add-on the Data Traveller?

Whereas this one is ad hoc.

I didn't mention anything about contract or ad-hoc, however you can get it on any Vodafone PAYG sim. £2/day for upto 25MB - it's all on the Vodafone site.

In reality if you plan to use it for more than 8 days a month you are better getting the basic contract for £10.50/mth - £50 quidco and paying the £10/mth for the months you are away.

You'd have to do the math as to which one works out best for you and if you'd use the included minutes for the contract option when in the UK.

If I were to sign up to this Vodafone dater traveller, would I be able to use the sim card from my iPhone in my unlocked dongle?

No, the T&C's specifically prohibit either teathered or dongle use.

The question is - if you have an iPhone why would you want to? 25MB is very little in PC terms where as you can do loads with a smart phone.

I'm writing this post from my Blackberry on a beach in Greece, for example.

Adam

I know you did not mention contract or PAYG.

I am getting totally confused. I thought this product was a dongle for a lap-top, nothing to do with phones, but you said that T&Cs say it cannot be used as a dongle. Please explain.

Maybe I am too ignorant to understand my own ignorance? That's not sarcasm but reality. ( BTW I have never even held any kind of 'smart' phone so I am probably way behind the drag curve)

Anyway moore importantly Adam, which beach are you on?

Guide to Vodafone Data Traveller:
http://www.europebycamper.com/2011/06/guide-to-vodafone-data-traveller-data_01.html

I know the OP posted a dongle but as far as I'm aware the only multi-country dongle looking remotely promising at the moment is the TEP device (see the other thread). The Vodafone data traveller, while restricted to a smart phone, is certainly the only multi country option at its price point.

£2 for 25MB equates to 8p a MB, the contract option as little as 2p a MB or 750MB/mth for circa £17.

Beach? Just south of Stratoni. Deserted, warm waters and 35-40c!
