I use Outlook to send mail, and use my gmail account becasue it works away from home (my virgin account only works at home).
At least that's the way it's been. Just the last few days I've had problems sending mail from Outlook using my gmail account - it'll go if I change to using ntl.
Have Google changed their settings in the last few days?
Lat month I posted a similar question regarding my Wanadoo e-mail address and Hotmail. Some of my e-mails to certain other accounts were just disappearing into thin air, and again e-mails sent to me were not arriving.
Having investigated further it has come to my attention that there is a "War" going on between some of the servers. So far this is what I have found regarding Wanadoo/Orange.
"Orange email servers have a very bad reputation for sending spam. They frequently appear on many of the spam blacklists.
ISPs often pre-filter incoming mail, looking simply at the IP address. If an email comes from an IP address with a very bad reputation for sending spam, they delete it before it even reaches your inbox (or spam folder).
ISPs don't tend to tell you that they do this, but they have to otherwise their mail servers would collapse under the weight of incoming junk.
Only some of Orange's mail servers will be blacklisted at a given point in time. When you send an email from an Orange account, it will be sent from one of their mail servers (lucky dip). If it gets sent from one which is blacklisted by the recipient's ISP, it will not get through.
This means that you could send 2 consecutive messages to the same recipient, but only one will get through, or both or none, depending upon which server actually sends each email.
I discovered that my ISP was using this blacklist to delete my incoming mail from Orange http://psbl.surriel.com/. (Note that Orange appear on many others as well.)
I have asked Orange to ensure that their servers are whitelisted, but that does not seem to have been done.
They may be having a problem doing this, as a condition of being on a whitelist is to ensure that you monitor your network, and make sure that your customers are not sending spam. They are clearly failing at this, otherwise they would not appear on so many blacklists.
I hope that my findings will help others, and would encourage anyone else experiencing similar problems to complain to Orange"
Trying to overcome this problem I opened four other e-mail accounts, 2 x Hotmail - Gmail & Yahoo and have experimented by sending e-mails to myself at different times of the day and night. Initially I had more problems between Wanadoo and Hotmail but recently Gmail problems are now just as bad.
With 59,000 members on this forum I would have thought that some others would have had a similar problem.
