Hi folks

I need help and quick before I throw this heap of junk in the skip.

You may have read a previous post where I had issues locking onto a satelite, that was down to a broken part, anyway, the dish was changed and it seemed OK. Whilst away in the new forest a few weeks ago and again this weekend in Hereford, whilst I was watching a programme the weather changed and it started to cloud over and rain, not heavy, just a normal shower, and I lost my signal, there was nothing, not even finding the German sat, absolutley nothing, just whiring round and round up and down,
no trees, no buildings, just in a field, NOTHING.

Why, if I haven't moved an inch would this happen, the receiver is brand new 1 week old, Grundig freesat, we had a signal with good strength and quality, where did it go?

Just a thought - a few times recently, we've lost our Freesat signal at home. No channels, no signal, nothing. The first time, we checked with our neighbours, who'd also lost their Sky signal. This was lost for about 2-3 minutes, I think. Might it be this?

Did your dish try to find the satellite automatically (when it disappeared)? If so, might it be better to lock it in position, or turn off the self-seeking, then you know it's not a positional thing?

Sorry - can't be much help other than that.

Gerald

Thanks for replying, no, the system just went to a red light as in no sat found.

The picture was fine until the rain then it started to break up, then the picture froze but the audio was OK, I could hear the athletics but could not see a picture, then nothing at all, lost everything.

Tried starting again, but just kept looking, and looking.

It's almost certainly the rain.

Don't forget that the signal has to travel through the atmosphere to reach the satellite and although the rain at your location may seem light, 10 miles away there may be a huge storm in the path of your satellite signal. Satellite signals are much more suceptible to heavy rain as they're very directional, at a much higher frequency and not as robust as the usual terrestrial signal. It's quite common to lose the picture first but audio to remain working. If reception was restored after the weather improved it's probably just the weather.

Thanks Gaspode but i don't buy that at all, I have used my little Lidl dish for years with no problems at all, even with heavy rain in my location, if you are correct and I sincerely hope you are not, then I will be looking for a refund or selling my 3 month old system.

Thanks for the reply though.

OK, if you've got some experience of using satellite systems and you feel the Glomex is underperforming then you need to determine what signal strength/quality the unit is obtaining during "normal" operations. If for instance you're only getting a 50% signal under "normal" conditions then I'd suspect misalignment of the LNB or skew settings. Can you connect a Sky digibox to the LNB feed once the system has locked onto the satellite? If so you can, go into the services menu and see what signal quality reading it's getting. If less than 75% in the UK then the signal is unsatisfactory and something needs adjusting. Obviously if you have a weak signal under "normal" conditions you'll lose it much easier in poor weather conditions.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply, you are now thinking along the same lines as me, I don't think the skew is correct, it is just the factory settings it came with, the past twice we have been out it fluxuates quite a bit, but never more than 70 something %. unfortunatley I am not an expert on realigning these things so I will have to get it checked out.

Hi
We get the same problem when we have rain, the picture eventually disappears and the banner "No Signal Being Received" we just leave it and when the rain has blown over back comes the picture.

Hi
This is not the dome this is the sat bolted to the side of the house. I hope this sets your mind to rest.
