We are both vertically challenged and also not strong enough to lift our bikes onto the back of our current van, even as a joint effort.
We tried standing on a stool each but really, really struggled. We managed to get one up, but realised we were going to do ourselves real harm if we werent careful, so had to abandon the idea. Such a shame as we were beside the Kennet & Avon canal this weekend.
Him indoors has an electric folding bike which could go inside, but mine is a 'proper' bike, I suppose I could buy a cheapy folding bike for me, but it defeats the pupose of the bike rack
has anyone else had and solved this problem without great expense?
I am only 5' 2"" and not exactly a spring chicken anymore. As I sometimes go away without hubby the problem of putting the bike on the cycle rack was quite challenging until one day when I had a eureka moment.
I learned to leave the rear wheel on the floor and lift the front wheel onto the edge of the cylce rack. I could then allow the rack to take the weight whilst i lifted the rear wheel onto the rack and at the same time guiding the cycle along the rack to the end position.
This technique worked for me, wasn't capable of lifting the whole bike in a 'oner'. Hope it works for you.
