Just bought our first fifth wheeler and wondered if anyone could suggest what type/size generator we should get. We are planning an extended trip across Europe and dont want to be tied to sites more than we have to.
Another issue might be getting fresh water tanks re-filled when we are not on sites - any ideas????
At the risk of starting some controversy - I would say that, in Europe, with a 5th wheeler you would be MOSTLY using sites.
I guess you would be too big for aires etc. (not being a motorhome might also be an issue) and to just park up in local car-parks etc. might draw some 'attention' to yourself - especially if you then go and drop a genny outside.
From what I have seen of 5th wheelers, 'wilding' in Europe with them is not really an option.
Let's face it, a 5th wheeler is just an oversized caravan........
I'm with Carl on this question. A 5th wheeler IS a caravan, towed behind a 'tug'. As such, you would not qualify, in my opinion, for a place on any aire de camping-cars. It is NOT a camping-car/motorhome.
I love the whole concept of the 5th wheeler, the space and payload in particular. But in the UK, and abroad, 5th wheelers have to use camp sites.
Perhaps there are places that might accommodate wild camping, but you'd struggle to find them.
If you could do some research on the popularity of generators, I think you'd find very few campers use them. They serve a purpose but not as quietly as a good, large solar panel. They can only be used during the day. To use them during the evening or through the night is considered anti-social. We're booked for 11 days at Hatton and beyond, without mains hook-up, just relying on the 120w solar panel.
Whichever, enjoy your new toy!
