We will be arriving in Amsterdam at the end of March to pick up our motorhome from BW Campers. We will be spending 6 months on the continent and the UK. We are from the USA and do not need a visa for any of the Euro countries or for the UK. We have heard of the Schengen Treaty requirement that states that for travelers from outside of the EU community we will only be able to spend 90 days out of any 180 in any country that is a signatory of the Schengen Treaty. That includes most of the Western Euro countries but not the UK. Does any one have any experience with this rule? Will we have to limit our stay on the continent to a max of 90 days?

Hi there

I doubt whether you'll have any problems; most of the time passport checks are only visual (no stamps), you could always duck in & out of Switzerland for instance (or even into the UK!). If they don't stamp your passport keep some campsite receipts to show that you've been out of the EU schengen area, so if there's any query when you leave, at least you have evidence.
I think the time limits are more to discourage illegal working, than for tourists.

Have a wonderful time, and please let us know what happens.

You shouldn't have too much trouble getting into the UK. No one else does. The worst thing that could happen to you is to be given a house, some money and a free health check.

Hope you have a great holiday in your new vehicle and please let us know how you get on with pics if possible.

Bon Voyage
