Hi , I am thinking of carrying a awning carpet on the bike rack,as i have no room else where to store it.
Is there a storage tube out there i could use.The plumbing tubes are too expensive ,so that`s not an option.
Just dont want to turn up on site with a carpet flapping about Smile Smile

Haven't a clue what sort of diameter your carpet would roll up into but what about 110mm drainage pipe? Around Ł15 for 4m.

We have a length of 4 inch diameter grey drainpipe on the back with 2 (homemade) end pieces made of painted and vented plywood. It has been with us for a long time now and holds an awning rafter, windbreak and satellite tripod. 6 inch is available but does not quite fit in the cycle rack. Surprisingly few people realise that it is even there once the bikes are in place and even without them there it blends well with the back of the van so is not obvious.

We spent ages trying to find something that would do the job; carpet roll inners, etc but this was all we could come up with in the end and it is well worth it.

Lifestyle,

I have a length of plastic pipe about 6" in diameter that fitted between my bike rack and the back of the van. One end is sealed and the other has a screw cap. We used it for carrying windbreaks but have just changed to a van with a large garage so now surplus to requirements.

It's quite heavy for posting but we are going to the show at Shepton Mallet and would be happy to bring it along if you are going too.

hi

can you not roll it round a brush steel, and then put in a waterproof bag, ( i use an old fishing rod bag) then secure to the b/rack forward towards the body, less strain on rack in that position.

I imagine 150mm would be more suited to my need.

Alphadee

Thank you so much for your generous offer.Unfortunately we are away this w/e ,the following w/e we have a wedding to attend, and then soon after that we are motoring down to Spain / Portugal for a couple of months ( i know it`s a hard life Laughing Laughing Laughing ) but we have both just retired.

Tom

The fishing rod bag sounds like a good idea.

Thanks Guys

I know 160mm is available (underground drainage) but that guage is likely to be on the heavy side.

You might find an off-cut at a builders yard.

What about a tent pole/windbreak bag?

Hi Les Very Happy

Is the 'carpet' one of those Moroccan mats? We just roll ours up, and slide it between the uprights of the bike rack and the rear bodywork ©Spacerunner Wink

Like geraldandannie, we put our Moroccan mat on the back. With a three bike unit and only two bike to carry, we use the middle bike 'wheel trough' to hold the carpet. Restraining any desire for it to carpet the highway with a couple of bungees. The sweeping brush goes down the centre.
We have travelled the last 3000 miles like this with no problems (except the wife not liking her brush to travel thus).
Alan
