A fault has developed in my Oyster/Skybox in my Hymer. On setup, once the Astra satellite has been found and the Sky intro displayed, it is impossible to go to any BBC channel. The only way to get BBC is to go to an ITV channel first, from the initial setup, then go to BBC. After that there is no problem.
Now I know that BBC and ITV channels are treated differently in/by the LNB on the dish, so I suspect that that is the cause and needs replacing. Nevertheless, I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this and can confirm my diagnosis, or has any other suggestion.
This happens wherever I go, no matter how super the line of sight to the satellite, here in UK south. I want to fix this as I fear losing BBC altogether.
If I need to replace the LNB, are there any instructions around on how to do so? I can live with a replacement single LNB.
No I don't think it's the Sky box. It's more likely the signal strength supplied to it. I sometimes get a similar problem in reverse when viewing Freeview at home. My antenna is very basic and the signal is weak so I get BBC but ITV only sometimes. I think there is a polarisation difference between the two, probably.
Nevertheless, I'll try a second box just in case, when I get it back from my son at the Steam Fair.
Thanks for moving me to the Satellite forum Zebedee. I looked and couldn't find it.

Hi I would suspect the sky box if you say it can receive bbc, once you receive a signal from astra i would say the LNB is working fine its also good bet also if the dish is locking onto to adtra the LNB is ok, if you just use the Oyster receiver and use that and the sky box you should be able to check the LNB is working.... thats what I have just done just to check things first before giving you my view
I'm assuming you have the same Ten Haft system I have....
Ok I did not know you do not have a receiver, but looking there are some systems without a receiver so yours must be one of them, so best if you just change the sky box first with any other satelite receiver and try that first....

I think what he is saying is that he doesnt have an actual Sky box, He just uses the Oyster receiver if that is so it is definitely the Oyster system that has a fault, as you will know no sky box is needed to get BBC ITV and other free to view channels.

No Saddletramp. I have a Sky box but no Oyster receiver, assuming that that is some form of Sky box substitute decoder. Sounds like an Oyster freeserve box
