We have a definite "buzzing" coming over our television whilst the solar panel is charging, if you operate a water tap the buzz ceases. We have narrowed it down to the solar panel as the "buzz" is only there when the sun is out............is this a case for ferrite rings and such things?

Question is. Did it just start? Or has it always buzzed! Would be inclined to check for loose connections panel to controller to battery as a starting point.

After an argument with the wife, I am informed it has always buzzed (I'm sure it hasn't really) but will certainly check for loose connections thanks

Yes, also thinking charge controller, if it is a PWM type. These basically very quickly switch the voltage to the battery on and off, which can cause a buzzing sound.
In my van the buzzing comes straight from the controller, I haven't noticed it coming over TV, but than mainly watch in the evening, when the panels obviously don't charge anymore.
You should be able to do something with a large capacitor over the 12V supply of TV, which would smooth the pules of the controller out (don't do this at the controller side, only at the consumer side, e.g. TV). No guarantees, but worth trying.

Am going to have to do some more research myself on this problem, the tv is on sometimes" in the day to listen to BBC radio and whenever the sun is out (and believe me of late here in France the sun has been having a contest with the rain to see who can be predominant) the buzzing has been there so as to whether the battery was fully charged or actually being charged well that is what I will have to monitor. Thanks for all the advice.

The culprit will be the charge controller all serious types use a dc/dc converter. These convert the dc to a highish frequency ac often higher than we can hear but not always then rectify back to dc. Often the solution is with earthing, and/or eradicating high resistance contacts rather than suppression but ferrites might help. .

Sorry Frank, your advice is usually first class but not in this case.
I cannot see Ferrets being of any use whatsoever.
Has the OP checked for a wasps nest under the panel. The problem seems worse under sunny conditions. The heat could be making them bad tempered (and therefore more noisy).
No need to thank me for my assistance.
