I've just managed to save the original picture that I just reduced to go in my profile. Any ideas on how to restore it to its original size from its now tiny size? Thanks in advance

You can't really do it. What will happen is that it will pixellate - like they do when trying to cover up the faces on TV news programs.

I've attached an enlarged version of your avatar.

Possibly too late for this occasion, but whenever you resize or compress a photo you should always save the resized photo with a new file name. That way you will always retain the original.
I resize a lot of my photos for web or email use and save them in a new folder, which replicates the original folder. Have also found that Windows Live Photo is excellent for this as it is free with Windows 7 and will resize multiple photos in one operation.

Not much help on this occasion, but whenever I reduce picture sizes to use as avatars or where there is a maximum size restriction, I retain the original at full size and use "save as" for the reduced size copy.

Depending on what system you used to shrink your pic, could the original, full quality pic be saved somewhere on your computer ?

Edit - (Like Gerry said Very Happy )

Is the original still on the memory card. Even if you reformatted the card it might be possible to recover it

Thanks all - I usually save the edited picture as something else, thus keeping the original, but this time hands engaged before brain and it was then too late. I don't have it on a memory card either. Will try and send it to me friend who is photoshop wizard and try the link

Sure it did not get erased to the recycle bin. A bit of a forlorn hope!
