Hi to all. Quite excited to join this group and looking forward to learning lots of things about motorhoming! Got my first 'van a 2005 CI Carioca 625 less than two years ago, which I absolutely love, but now rain is dripping through the air conditioner. It pools in a slight dip on the roof around the a/c unit as though it's too heavy for the roof then seeps through. Does anyone know if there's any warranty for water ingress at all from CI or is it going to be loads of money? I was going to climb a ladder and try to use loads of sealant round the unit base, if I can reach. Many thanks for any advice. - lady motorhomer
Key points are; get it fixed, be clear about the history of the mh so you know who to talk to re. responsibility, get an 'expert' view on exactly how the water is getting in, be very careful about working on the roof yourself unless you are used to work of that sort. Mh diy-ers can use sealants very easily and effectively but its not quite as easy as you might think and loads of sealant ineffectively plastered about will not necessarily do the trick, water just needs a small crack!
I'd certainly get it fixed asap to minimise chance of much more costly damage if the water gets to places where it can cause materials to rot - I'm not sure of CI construction materials but its likely to involve 'composite' boards of some sort which will not like being soaked, plus damp smells and stains are demoralising not to mention the thought of water dripping in while you're in it
So - what to do? Re. the warranty issue its unlikely that there will be one after 6 yrs but try CI themselves, possibly via the original dealer. If the aircon. is after-market it may well have invalidated any warranty.
Assuming no warranty tell us which area you live in (no - not your address!!!) and someone will come up with a good honest repair shop/dealer or mobile service who will give you a free diagnosis and clear estimate of work required - they would also guarantee their work for a reasonable period.
If its just a re-seal of the fitting it won't be too expensive, if its the aircon unit itself which is letting water in I'm not sure as I don't have one but someone on here will know.
Re. the 'pooling' of water, that in itself should not automatically lead to leaking, most mhs gather water somewhere or other when stationary hence the waterfall when you move off!
Let us know your region and someone will come up with a contact. If you are determined to diy, ask again and folks who do it for themselves will advise.
Hi,everyone I'm luth and I'm new to this forums and it's very nice that we can shares the information and knowing everything about the insurance policies......
The dealer I bought it from says air conditioner would have been fitted after the sale to the first owner, so there won't be any warranty from CI. I am pretty sure it is the seal as I have hardly used the air conditioner and it drips when it rains.
Did have a go undoing a/c from below to try to squirt sealant upwards around the square hole, but the bolts were big and we thought it might undo the whole unit on top. Put the cover back on quickly!!
I am in Surrey, South East and would be grateful to know from anyone if there's a company locally who can do habitation unit checks and maintenance inside and out. Unfortunately, I haven't had one done yet.
No damp smells yet, but I want to get all the top seals checked, having had a closer look at the inside of the top wall cupboards as well. Will get the work done immediately after my hol to France. Hope it doesn't rain too much!!
Relieved to hear that I'm not the only one who has a waterfall when I move off!!
"It pools in a slight dip on the roof around the a/c unit as though it's too heavy for the roof then seeps through. "
This suggests that the weight of the a/c unit is causing the roof structure to deflect significantly. That's a bad sign especially if you can actually see water coming through. I would get a professional repairer to remove the a/c unit and check the roof for potential rotten structural timber.
South East Surrey would suggest that you are not too far away from Johns Cross Motorhomes

Talk to Glen or Ian, either will give you all the help that you need.
I have no financial interest in the company but they have given me very good service for some years.

Further to my first post, following a hab check, I am told I have extreme damp in roof and rear half of mh from leak around aircon unit (as I guessed). Major work needed running into thousands to fix. Their damp meter registered max, I am told. This is a nightmare. Any suggestions welcomed. Help!
