I am camping in Umag in Croatia (Istria) and cannot pick up TV satisfactorily,

Signal strength & quality are both good.
Network ID is 0002 & transport stream is 07d4.

All should be well but I am unable to get BBC ! BBC2 ITV etc..

I can get all the news channels above channel 503.

I have set the polarity at minus 4 degrees.

Any advice would be welcome.

Many thanks.

Vic

Hi Vic,

The signal strength on BBC/ITV on the southern beam has been turned down over the past few years. Also the band frequency is lower than the news channels so you get more atmospheric interference. You could try different transponders etc. Also manually adjust the skew to increase the signal strength may help.

Good luck Captain Bligh

P.S. I think you might need a bigger dish - minimum in Cyprus is 2.7metres !

I would think you are outside the footprint for the Astra 2d satellite which carries most UK programming. You will get Astra 2 south beam which includes sky news, BBC news and a few other English channels. I think you should get BBC radio, and if you look for channels called stream 1, stream 2 etc. these are the content normally available on BBC red button so you can watch final score and the grands prix.

Many thanks to both CaptainBligh and madontour.

I am convinced that you are both correct in your assumption that I am out of range.

ITV4 and all the news channels and radio are fine so I am grateful for that.

Thanks once again.

Best regards,

Vic

If you are getting ITV4, like you say you are, then you are getting Astra 2D - and thus should also be able to receive BBC and ITV channel that are also on ITV4....and ITV4 is on a very similar frequency to BBC1 and BBC2....

(unless you mean ITV4HD - which is not on Astra 2D or that was a typo!).

Otherwise, yes your dish is way too small to receive Astra 2d in your location. Trying different transponders may not help - if you cannot receive any one transponder on Astra 2d, then it will be highly unlikey you will be able to receive others, so not BBC1/2/3/4, they are only on Aatra 2d.

You get the BBC News channel for it is on an Astra 2 "south beam" whose reception is much easier than Astra 2D.

HOWEVER - this will change towards the end of September.
The BBC are closing down one transponder and having a shuffle around of their frequencies - which means that NO MORE BBC News on the south beam (News, Alba and Parliament will be moving to AStra 2d) - and even worse - if you cannot get BBC News, then you will not be able to use the Red 3001 treick on a sky box for the sports streams!!! Non Sky and Non Freesat boxes should be OK, as the stream will remain on the same satellites and will be, as they do now, able to access them direct, without having to load up the red button application.

means you are pointing at Astra 2 group of satellites, and are receiving one frequency / transport stream (out of about 95), that is labelled as 07d4. This does not mean you are able to receive ALL 95 plus frequenices, just that one. Change the frequency, and the TS will change...as 07d4 is the hex ID for the transponder select...11758 horizontal.

The FTA BBC and ITVs are on Astra 2D. BBCs have been on this for about 8 or 9 years now. It has one beam, a "narrow" beam. It does not have a north or south beam. The signal has not been "turned down" nor are they on a "south beam". Only a few "free to view" ITV1 regions are on a south beam - those on freq 11973...(well for the time being.......)

Hi satandtvguy,

Yes, a typo of sorts. Being based in Wales we think of S4C as being our ITV4. It is in position 104 on our remote control. It is S4C that we can obtain here.
Many thanks for your input.

Vic
