Hi all
I read lots of very useful info on here re Vodafone data traveller so signed up for a month prior to our three week French trip (note, only for phone but many here have tethered without a problem).
Internet was great via my phone but, for some reason, my computer wouldn't connect to the internet, via bluetooth to my phone, despite the fact that it works here in the UK, before and after our trip abroad. Anyone else experienced this?
Also, when in Macdonalds I couldn't access their wifi with either phone or laptop. After coming home I tried my phone in a Macd's and it allowed me to sign up with no problem.
Again, anyone had this?
Cheers
Geoff

Hi Geoff

We have just returned from 2 weeks in France and like you I took our brand new all singing all dancing laptop with us. The first campsite we stopped at had wi-fi and we connected fine though too slow for skpe. Used various McD' s in France ok. Last campsite with wi-fi wouldn't connect and kept saying limited access. Back home wouldn't connect either via cable or wireless. Appears there is a problem with Windows 7 and some updates. However I could restore laptop back to factory default and it connects fine again. Took the laptop back to retailer, to be told out of 28 day return policy, we will send it away. The saga is continuing as I am not a happy bunny at the mo. So if you run Win 7 check this out first.

Gordon

Thanks Gordon. Yes, mine's a brand new notebook (small laptop) with windows 7. I must try and access free wifi here using this. Works fine on our home wifi system though.
Any other contributions folks?
Geoff

My phone (Blackberry) performs much better when connected via a USB cable rather then a Bluetooth connection.

It is also worth noting that the network automatically selected by the handset may not actually be the preferred network and/or may not offer the right data services for tethered access. I keep my handset on manual and swap between the available 3G networks until I get one with the best speeds - the beauty of roaming is you can usually choose any network you like.

Have been using data traveler for 6 months and 15 countries without a hitch!

As far as Wifi goes, never had to 'resort' to Mc Donald's, wherever we are we find Wifi with out 1km antenna.
