Is it possible to use the SKY + facilty to record without having a phone line? Especially if you use the series link. Will it record and will it record the whole series? We had our land line rmoved recently and the record facility works on demand but the series link has failed.
Thanks

Yes. My Sky phone line made a lot of noise on the phone so I disconnected it years ago since when I've satisfactorily recorded thousands of hours of programmes, including series link.
Sky+ and Sky+HD recording are not affected by phone line connection.
Phoneline connection is only required for:
a new sky installation for 12 moinths (as per the T&Cs of your instal;lation)
Sky Multiroom contacts.
and is only used for checking the equipment is at the address / phone number for the contract, and for things like voting on TV programmes and buying things (like PPV movies) and items on QVC.
No checks about subscriptions or recordings are done by the phone line. Not even software updates are done by phone line - all done vi satellite. Its only a 56k modem, so the data flow is very slow, and not the best solution for data transfer to the box - so dall data to the box is via satellite.
Series link information, and recording informaiton, is via the EPG, whose data is via the satellite.
If your "planner" recordings and series links are failing to record, then you need to check the cable and LNB being used on "input 2" of your box, as that is where these "planned" recordings are usually recorded from (assuming input 2 is not being used for another "planned recording"). Recording channels you are watching are normally done on "input 1" (unless input 1 is already been used)
Hi
You don't need a phone line but it won't work without a contract with SKY.
You can't use the + facility like you can with a free view box.
Kind regards
Alshymer
Actually you can.
There is one make of Sky+ box (the 3100), where you can "upgrade" the boxes firmware to a "hacked" version that allows the recording functions without a subscription - but doing this is risky and may render the box useless...

I did just remember something. Don't think I can order films on Box Office without a phone line.... someone please correct me if I'm wrong (as I've not tried for a very long time but think I might have needed the connection??)

Not entirely correct. To quote from Sky's website:
"If your Sky box is not connected to a working telephone line, you will not be able to order Box Office events using your remote control. You can order some major sport pay per view events online.
For Sky Movies Box Office events you can still order by calling Sky on 08442 410 888. If you book a movie or event over the telephone, rather than using your Sky remote, this incurs a £1 administration charge, billed automatically along with your next month's subscription."
