I'm just trying to set up our el-cheapo Lidl satellite - we bought it off a friend even cheaper than the Lidl offer so if it all goes wrong at least I have a tripod and the makings of a Wok...!

I have pointed it in the direction of 'south' looking for sat Astra 1 (19deg) but the telly says its at Astra 28.2E (whatever the chuff that means)

No matter where I point the Wok the info on the telly doesnt change??

I'm off for a wander round the site to see where others are pointing but any other ideas gratefully accepted Smile

Paul

Step 1, Look for other dishes. Wink

Step 2, If no dishes about, use your compass to find the right direction. Use some point on the horizon as a marker to remember it.

Have your dish looking like it is pointing horizontally.

Now we begin. Very Happy

Start off to the left of the point on the horizon that you noted and slowly move the dish round. If you have a satellite finder it should start giving a stronger indication. If you do not, do what I do and look through the van window at your TV screen (set up on Sky box to show signal strength screen). Once you start getting a signal, tweak gently in both planes for maximum signal strength.

These self seeking jobbies take all the fun out of satellite TV. Laughing

If your box has only been instructed to set one sat on memory then it wont look for any other unless you go into menu and pull out the othe sats you want like hispasat thor hotbird and so on. Then do search all tp's all channels fta and away you go then do fav lists.

It points south now and in the same direction as another chaps around the corner. I put in horiz mode as per suggestion. Ive moved it to left and got it hovering at intensity=74% and quality at 47% but its dropped back down to 30% and 11% resp.

It is still showing Astra 28.2E...?

go to dish pointer.com
move the google map to your lo ation
select the satellite from the list of satellite for the satellite you want.
look at the map and it gives you the direction as to where to poiint the dish.

UK TV comes from Astra 2s at 28 east. So that s the channel list you want.
If that channel list has say Sky News, then select that onthe channel list and move the dish until your "beeper" beeps and you get Sky news on the screen.

If you want Astra 1s at 19 east, then select a channel like BVN (ok it belgium but it serves its purpose), and then move the dish until the beeper beeps and you get BVN on the screen.

19 east means 19 degrees east of south...if you are on the greenwich meridaian. it will differ depending where you are in relation to the meridain.

If you get good signal, but not UK channels on 28 east, then you are not on the correct satellite.
