A quick update first and thanks to everyone who has given us advice. We used SV Tech yesterday who uprated our wieght. our 55l gas tank fitted by Autogas 2000 in frodgham is working well. Our air suspension fitted by Armatiges is ok after a little problem.
Now we need help with the Auto sat. We ve been told Magic Stat and Oyster would be best. We travel Spain and Portugal in winter and Germany, Poland and Hungary summer. Can we have advice and your opinions as to services and where to purchase please

Just make sure you get a system with twin LNB and auto skew if you want to give yourself the best chance of reception of Astra 2 on the continent. There ae a few good systems out there. I have the Kathrein Cap900 which I consider is best for me but its marginal. Look at my previous posts and also those of Rapide and you can see what has been said about the Kathrein. Russel (Rapide) has had a Dome system, An Oyster, and now a Kathrein so can voice a very good opinion of what works best.

We have an 85cm Autosat 2S Control with Twin LNB and Skew options and have been very satisfied with its performance.

We purchased from Outdoor Bits with mobile installation which was performed by Rhino Installs to an excellent standard

We looked at the various options and had decided on the new Camos dish, but due to supply issues had to end up cancelling, but don't regret the descision.

Hiya

Thanks for the mention Ken!

As stated, I have had three systems, very briefly

Oyster 85cm self seeking system - all ok, good coverage of BBC and ITV at Lake Garda, Italy. The picture did sometimes break up in the evening or during bad weather.

Camos 40cm dome - no BBC or ITV at Garda

Kathrein system - not the cheapest but blooming excellent overseas - we even managed Corrie in Pompeii!

Here is my review on the Kathrein on my blog pages

Russell

We sell sat systems and I would back up what has been said here for long distance travelling in the areas that you have advised.

I also have the Kathrein system on my RV and find it excellent.

Having said that, to be honest for "most" motorhomers travels where they may find themselves out of range for a few days a year, cheaper alternatives work just as well in the UK and central Europe.

RoadPro sell and import the Kathrein CAP910 and their knowledge of the system and their back up is second to none on the product. The MD Andy Harris is often on MHFacts sorting out niggles for people.

As for a fitter or a company there are many, and more popping up by the day as the recession bites, so a bit of research here or on Google (same thing BTW Laughing ) will give you a short list of suitable companies.

Hope that that helps a bit

Eddie

Hi we have an Oyster 85cm auto system bought in 2004, i transferred it myself in 2008 to our current motorhome, we have covered nearly 50,000 miles in this van up north to Norway and Sweden, down to Sicily, spent winters in Portugal. It is the single LNB model currently in near Nurberg. lnb at half past six, when in UK or France half past seven, when in Portugal eight o'clock,(referring to position of lnb when looking at dish from front. Only in Sweden one night no TV (someone put a mountain in the way) whilst we do not get all the channels in some places 90% of the time we get itv bbc etc. when south we have to change transponders and watch bbc London but generally all ok. I bought a hi gain lnb when in Italy 12 Euros and find it better in fringe areas. Sometimes you have to manually search with the dish just to tweek the picture but am more than satisfied with the system. For some reason we have been in Places right next to someone else with the same system and they cannot get any tv whether it is to do with the lnb I am not sure.

There are quite a few excellent companies who fit them well including Rhino Installs, Vanbits, Snelly, Roadpro all who are on here. Just see what kind of deal you can get for supply and fit. If you like PM the info to me and I will try to advise you what's the best bet. As Russel has said the Kathrein is excellent but equally Eddy is correct in that you may get just what you need at a better price Smile
