Our Burstner Solano has a small oven above the fridge. We have had the van exactly a year now and have not used it very much but that was partly because it didn't seem to get hot enough. I bought an oven thermometer from Lakeland and discovered that it will only get up to about 170C, and takes approx 3/4 hr to get to that temperataure. During the summer we didn't use it but we like to go away all year if we can and it would be very useful for pizzas or oven chips but not if it only reaches that temperature.
My question is - is this a known issue amongst motorhomes or should I be complaining and trying to get a replacement/ get it looked at, under warrantly? My instinct is to do this but I have come to realise that some things just go with the territory.
Many thanks in advance!

Gas ovens in motorhomes are rarely that good (but ours is fine).

The other problem with gas ovens is that they tend to generate Moist heat rather than dry hot air.

That is not something we have encountered, our Kontiki oven heats up well and certainly cooks well although I have never checked the time to reach maximum or the temperature.

Have you checked that the oven thermometer is reading correctly? It would be worth checking it against an oven of known capabilities. Where you put the thermometer will also have an effect as they are not fan assisted ovens (I think), so the top will be hotter than the bottom.

Sorry, not really a lot of help, but it will at least keep your post visible......

Ours is crap as well hence we use a double skillet for pizza, oven chips even garlic bread. Saves on time and gas we then store double skillet in oven along with bread!

You say that your oven is above your fridge. I think that must be the same as the one in our Burstner Elegance. Burstner refer to it as a Tech Tower.

We have only had the van a few months, but must say we have not found the same problems that you mention.

Last time away we used it to heat something up and we did discuss how much quicker it was at heating up and cooking. We put this down to it being a smaller space than the previous large ovens we have had installed in our Auto Trail and Swift vans.

So in short, no we do not have the same issue as you and we find the oven to be working better than the other ovens we have had in our vans (probably just due to the physical size). May be worth getting it checked out.

Yes, I checked it against my cooker in my kitchen at home, I've got 2 ovens, a fan assisted one and a normal one and the thermometer was spot on in both ovens.

I think I shall test it one more time and if it doesn't go above the previous temperature I shall mention it to the dealer, we are due to take the van up for a service in 2 weeks to keep the warranty going. I do feel that if it says it will reach a certain temperature - it should. Useful to know about the double skillet if we don't have any luck.

Our oven, Smev, works really well, browns pastry etc

Didn't time the heat up period but if it had taken excessive time I would have noticed

I think I would have yours checked

We use LPG in Gaslow system

I wonder though if it uses a lot of gas, but as we had run the generator for 4 hrs whilst travelling( Gas) I'm not sure

Will be getting an inverter for our next trip to charge up the bikes etc so will have a better idea

Aldra Very Happy

My small oven is rubbish too, after reading previous thread, where most people agreed that this particular make was rubbish I have had to accept it.
Tend to use a Czech Cooker ( Remoska clone ) when on hook up. That's great.
