In our telly cupboard, the 12V socket is waaaaay at the back of the cupboard, which needs an orang-utan (or me stretching my arm as far as possible) to plug the TV in. I can't leave it plugged in, because the telly hits it when it goes fully into its hidey-hole. See the top photo with the socket circled (or, more precisely, ovalled).
Under the TV is a gap of about 1", which isn't really enough to mount one of those 12V cigarette lighter extender thingees (which I already have, and used on our old van).
So I'm probably going to have to bodge something, remove the 12V socket from the wall and mount a switch or something somewhere to turn the telly on.
Anyone done this? Any ideas for what would look neat? There's a bit of space on the back wall of the cupboard (pointed at by the arrow on the other, bottom photo). For neatness, the incoming / outgoing wires would need to exit the whatever-it-is through the back, so all we'd see would be the switch (or whatever-it-is).
the other option is have the 12v socket as you say on the outside of the tv locker but the cable obviously on the inside and perm plugged in to the 12v, extract the tv to the extreme of the sliders, and cut the cable length to suit, you could even clip it to the inside? so when the tv is brought in/out it remains tidy.

How do I turn it off? I don't particularly want it to be taking power when it's not being watched, even if it's just standby current.
why do you need to turn it off? ours is connected all the time, surely if everything is turned off and no stand-by buttons illuminated, then it wont draw any current?
you can always remove it anyway as it will be easy accessible if mounted on the outside of said locker, neatly in the corner??
or another possibility is mount it where it is at the moment but vertically instead of horizontally (if there is space when the sliders are stowed)
Or, more like, can't be ar$ed to wade through catalogues and online stores trying to find something suitable. It sounds like ZebeDave has something suitable.
I purchased a 12v lighter plug that hinges to almost 90 degrees, and incorporates a switch as well.
That may be of some help, but not sure where I purchased it from!
